“A teacher’s contract has a certain number of sick days stipulated in it, and this becomes, in effect, part of that teacher’s compensation package. If the sick days aren’t used, they’re lost-—in the teaching profession, diming out on a sick day is as common as chalk.”
I’m aware of the contract, my wife teaches. But just because you CAN dime out a sick day doesn’t mean you should. In the end, the taxpayer now has to pay for both the teacher out on sick leave and a substitute that has to replace them.
> “I don’t feel that I did anything immoral, anything that would have caused harm to my students,” Jarry noted.
Wrong on both counts, sunshine. “Theft as a Servant” is a crime — which is what you did when you ripped off a sick day. And Howard Stern by definition is harmful to your students.
> Jarry continued, “If I did not resign that day, they could pursue charges against me for fraud because; I mis-used a sick day, being told all that, I thought my best decision was to resign.”
Sadly, she probably has grounds for Constructive Dismissal, if what she says here is true. The HR department blew it. And, naturally, Fraud charges should follow anyway.
Let that be a lesson to all her fellow teachers paying dues to a union, expecting to receive quality services in return.
Gee, maybe entering a Stern "hottest" contest and showing up in a bikini top? But, maybe it's just me.
Then, in order to be consistent, the school board should probably can---summarily---about 75% of their current teachers. But you know very well this firing is not about the misuse of a sick day . . .
That's the real lesson here. Sounds like the union lawyer really gave his or her client some bad advice.
“But you know very well this firing is not about the misuse of a sick day . . .”
Yes, I’d agree with that. Still she wasn’t particularly bright choosing to appear on Stern.
She deserves everything she got. Anyone that tips to that no talent waste of human space may as well have spent the day in a porno shop.
If you walk down any beach in the United States and think to yourself that all the attractive women you see in bikinis are "skanky trollops," then yeah, it's just you, and you should probably see a psychologist about that.
“Exactly how did you determine she was a skanky trollop?”
I married one once. I now have skanky trollop radar. ;)
Seriously, though. She may not be but I’m thinking a chick who takes the day off to be on Stern to express her “hotness” juxtaposed to her husband’s “ugliness” is missing being a party girl/club meat. I didn’t catch this bit, of course, but I’m sure Stern wasn’t discussing with her what church she goes to or what charities she supports.
This guy must have a huge,,,,uh,,,,,er,,,,,,,,,,wallet!
She appeared on the show with her husband. She was dressed in a bikini. God forbid---you can see the same thing at a beach, or at a pool---holy cow, Katie bar the door.
Ironically, she was going to use the money she won in the contest to further her education and enhance her teaching credentials. She said this at the very outset of the contest.
(Sorry - screwed up the side-by-side in my last post...)
But, if I see such person entering a wet t-shirt contest, I just may... If it walks like a duck...
That's wonderful, but it wasn't a "wet t-shirt contest."
I didn't realize the Stern show was being broadcast from a beach location. Then you're correct -- it was entirely appropriate for her to be wearing a bikini. Why wasn't her husband in a swim suit?
Yeah, and it wasn't a book club meeting either. Every fine, upstanding woman that I know enters "hottest wife" contests and shows up for pictures in a bikini.
If you need 5K to further your education, take a short term night job. You don't have to whore yourself out unless it's just second nature.
I think you’re missing the point here. If you want to take off from work to do something like this, and don’t want it to be an issue, take a vacation day or a personal day.
If you use a sick day, it’s going to be scrutinized whether you like it or not. That’s why I said it wasn’t all that bright on her part.
By the way, I’ve worked places where people have been canned for misusing or abusing sick time. Why should teachers be any different?
Too clever by half, there, slick. It was a beauty contest. You do realize that beauty pageants have something called a "swimsuit competition," don't you---and that these beauty pageants are typically held in theaters, and not the beach?
Why wasn't her husband in a swim suit?
Two reasons: It wasn't a "hottest guy" contest, and that's gay.
