>> I’ve seen plenty of CPS and ‘authority’ screw ups in my years on this planet to be skeptical of them.

+1

I have no sympathy or support for FLDS as an organization, especially to the extent they were abusing children or holding members against their will.

But it’s pretty clear to me that the CPS and Texas authorities are way out of bounds — overreaching AND sloppy. That scares me and angers me both.

you'll find that they gave ONE ADDRESS for the whole place.

So what. The same thing is true for most major universities. By your logic if there was some allegation of abuse somewhere on, say the campus of Yale University then CPS should round up and take all the kids that live on campus, right? Now that would be pretty silly wouldn't it? Whether a place has one mailing address or 100 has nothing to do with determining whether or not it is one household. Claiming that an entire community of people - even if they belong to the same religion - is one household has no legitimate basis in fact or in law.

My kids love to play in tanks and armored personnel carriers.

It’s a little less pleasant when they are driving toward you with their guns pointed at you.

"Aren’t these the same people who railed against what the gov’t did to the Branch Davidians (including 24 children)? And Elian Gonzales? Ruby Ridge?"

SD, seems that you've figured it out, but I'll say it anyway. There is a very pro-government intervention, hand-wringing, do-it-for-the-children, nanny-state, liberal faction here at FR and they get very aggressive when they see an opportunity to oppress some folks that they don't understand or don't agree with the way they live.

It is not that this group is extremely large, but they are very vocal until the doodie hits the fan, then they scatter and peer from the shadows.

BTW, have they charged even ONE person with ONE crime related to this raid and the taking of 400+ children? And we are going on what, 2 months out?

“It’s weak? My God man I wrote the rules for it.
Don’t tell me I misremembered 40 years of my life already?”

I didn’t realize I was talking to Cliff Claven. 40 years as a mailman?? Wow.

That's correct ~ and it's a fact known to the individual(s) to whom I responded. I think if you go all the way back to the first FR discussion of the matter you'll find them on there with the same arguments.

I rather suspect our responses to their allegations are not read. Might divert them from the message of their church or something.

Yes, but applying that term when unjustified is uncalled for.

No, it's not true for any universities at all. They mostly like to give lots and lots and lots of addresses and convince the USPS to deliver to all of them!

The USPS has rules and standards for university situations. I wrote part of the rules, another gentleman wrote another part, and a lady named Ann Kernan wrote yet other parts.

William F. Bolger, then Postmaster General, had asked several people to "get this problem resolved", and I was involved and helped get it resolved.

It’s fully justified when people want to deal with children as though they are property.

How long has Warren Jeffs been in custody? A year, two years? Has anyone who actually lived at the compound that was raided been charged with anything now that we are almost two months post-raid? Anybody?

Agreed. I just fail to see how that could be applied to me.

If they truly believe something is going on in there I hope they keep an eye out for exits until they can go back in with a warrant.

I’m just an impartial observer at this point on this one right now. If I get time I will catch up on the facts of the case. Right now, no one is looking too good.

CPS in my state is infamous for releasing bogus information. That being said, I will wait until I’ve read much more on this before I try to argue one way or another.
