McCain to host possible veeps at Ariz. home (Jindal, Crist, Mitt)

CLEVELAND (AP) - The Memorial Day guest list at Sen. John McCain's Arizona home runs to at least three Republicans mentioned as vice presidential running mates, but a top aide said Wednesday that vetting possible veeps is not on the agenda.

"It's purely social," said Mark Salter, a senior adviser to McCain.

Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney were all invited to a Memorial Day gathering at the senator's home in Sedona, Ariz. Romney ran for the Republican presidential nomination in last winter's primaries, but dropped out months ago and has endorsed McCain.

Ten couples in all were invited. McCain often hosts friends and political acquaintances at his compound.

McCain said more than a month ago that he was in the "embryonic stages" of selecting a running mate for the fall campaign, but neither he nor aides have disclosed additional information in the weeks since.

I just don’t understand why anyone would believe that a conservative VP would have the slightest impact on McCain policy.

Rick needs to get himself re-elected in PA. But that ain’t gonna be easy unless the GOP as a party mans-up. That is highly unlikely.

JC would be a good choice. But only if McCain is gone after one term.

Romney’s Massachusetts health care program is a mess. Not a good choice.

I pity anyone unfortunate enough to serve as McCain’s VP. I think he was hoping for Hillary, but she isn’t cooperating.

Fortunately I don’t gamble or vote for a guy only to hope he dies.

“There is nothing short of repudiating his own global warming, amnesty, and gun control history that would make me vote for him.”

Who is the Falcon Party running this year?

Don’t place your hopes in Jindal carrying the GOP to conservatism. Ask the Louisiana freepers.

If Bobby Jindal isn't conservative enough for you, the problem is you and not him. There is nobody to his right who stands the slightest chance of winning the Presidency this year or maybe any year.

McCain is the only choice I have as someone who will appoint the next SCOTUS, is against Marxism and the murder of unborn children.

Instead of taking my vote home and not participating in this years election is just not my cup of tea.

Obama is the most dangers man in America if he is elected.

What ever any other citizen chooses to do is their business but I do not trust the old wait till 2012.

Rick would be nutz (sorry to say) to try and re-up here in PA. He is doing cushy think tanky stuff these days and commenting on the tube...no need to traipse the Commonwealth anymore. But it would be a nice thought :)

FWIW...I think the Huckster is still on the short list too...blah.

Well, for starters, he has been in office just a few months, so he is certainly NOT presidential material at this point. Second, you might want to listen to what Louisiana conservatives are saying about him. So far the reviews are decidedly mixed. That does not mean that he has no future as a GOP leader. It just means he has to prove himself.

Actually, Jindal is nearly 37. If he weren’t at least 35, he couldn’t be considered for VP.
