Unlike most politicians, Barack Obama does not waffle. He comes out boldly, saying mutually contradictory things.

Yes!

My favorite:

If Barack Obama had given a speech on bowling, it might well have been brilliant and inspiring. But instead he actually tried bowling and threw a gutter ball. The contrast between talking and doing could not have been better illustrated.

I liked this one a little more:

If Barack Obama had given a speech on bowling, it might well have been brilliant and inspiring. But instead he actually tried bowling and threw a gutter ball. The contrast between talking and doing could not have been better illustrated.

Was my favorite, too.

Muttley laughter here... :)

>> But instead he actually tried bowling and threw a gutter ball.

“You see, because bowling is about change. It’s not where the 7 pin is, or the 10 pin stands. What matters most is hook. I knew a girl from Jersey. Few from the right cared about her or tried to hit on her. She was lonely and lived between two gutters. I like Jersey and I have hope. I look up and see change and that’s why I throw my ball in the gutter.”

"McCarthyism" is a term used to dismiss the threat of internal subversion and espionage.

On my list of people who have done the most good for the world, Joe McCarthy would be there with Winston Churchill, Ronald Reagan and George Washington. (Admittedly, my list contains 3 1/2 Americans. It is, as am I, totally biased.)

Even drugs which have been used safely for years in Europe or elsewhere cannot be sold in the United States without the approval of the Food and Drug Administration— which can take years, while people suffer and die from a lack of that drug. Why not allow such drugs to be sold with a bright red label that says: "THIS DRUG IS NOT APPROVED BY THE FOOD AND DRUG ADMINISTRATION. NOR IS IT DISAPPROVED"?

I cannot repeat the name I was called by an FDA employee when I made such a suggestion once.

Some people in the FDA are so sick and power-hungry, they lack empathy and have perhaps turned the corner to sadism.

That’s an excellent suggestion but like you say, they won’t relinquish that power.

I’m not much of fan of the FDA either. A medication which my GI tract needs to function has been pulled from the market by the FDA. This drug helps me tremendously, and there are no good alternatives to it available in the US. Thankfully, my GI Dr. is Australian and a world-renowned researcher in his field. He has found a reputable overseas mail-order pharmacy that sells the Australia/New Zealand version of this drug.

Hey, you should run for president. You obviously know how to speak, and I’ll bet you have charisma, too.

This is a good one by Sowell. Sometimes, I think his random thoughts are a waste of time.

What, no Maggie Thatcher? I agree with you, I think McCarthy got the historical shaft. Wisconsin has sure gone downhill politically since they could send him to Washington.
