Those old beasts always amazed me when I was a kid. My uncle, who was an AAC A/C mechanic in England, told me they only needed wings and engines and a rudder to fly. He also said something about the flight plan.....but that's not repeatable... way overboard here.

IIRC, the Lanc did not even have a co-pilot! Either the Bomb Aimer or the Navigator could fill in in a pinch but from the pics of the Lancasters cockpit I have seen there was not a co-pilots seat even.
