Does anyone know the breakdown of energy use in our country? What % of imports (oil, gas)are used for electricity production, transportation (auto, airplane), etc.

I guess what I want to see is what effect would it have on imports if we went full bore for nuclear power over the next 10 years.

I noticed that Sen. McCain stuck strictly to MidEast foreign policy and the military, clearly his strong points. Nothing else was discussed.

I have said before and will say again that Sen. McCain would be an excellent Commander in Chief. The problem is, he will make a rotten President. The C in C role is only part of the job. I’m a whole lot more concerned about what MY country is going to look like.

“This is hysterical. A John McCain ping list on the nations #1 conservative website. Cheers.”

Strange world. You’ll note that socialism is being prettied up and recast as “conservatism.”

“Ya know... I really think the most important question for John McCain is... what product will you endorse once you fade into oblivion. Bob Dole chose the limp d*** route. How in the world can McCain one-up that!”

Now *that* is a great question for the November “John McCain fades into oblivion” thread.

He’ll probably end up endorsing some drug used to treat senile dementia. Or better, how about those invisible fences used to keep dogs in your yard?

Last I heard he was going to vie for Billy Mays job.

He just might get it too, McCain is slick at selling a bunch of sh*t and trying to make it look good.

“I have a personal theory that the problems we’re seeing now came out of the fact that 96% of our citizenry carries (on average) $20k in consumer debt (per household).”

Interesting theory. Politics tends to follow economics. And huge levels of personal debt will color your outlook.

One big mistake that I think the GOP made in the past few years was changing the bankruptcy law for individuals. Of course, they were simply doing what their cronies in the credit card industry were requesting that they do, but it would have been wiser to leave the law the same and force the lenders to re-evaluate the creditworthiness of who they were lending to. They just made a bad situation worse.

I nominate you for “post of the day.”

“Oh, so you’re a Democrat.”

I find it ironic that the self-identified Democrats on FR tend to be more conservative than many of the Republicans posting the forum.

I’ve seen more than my share of socialism. And we’re about to have an election where both candidates for both the major parties are socialists. The rhetoric is of course different, but the underlying philosophy and where they would take this country is pretty much the same.

“With McCain, at worst, one gets slightly more than half a platter. At worst.”

Naaah. What you get with Sen. McCain is a trojan horse and about the same amount of socialism as you would get with the other guy when the day is done. You forget that this guy is a Republican and thus labeled a “conservative.” He would undermine any actual conservative opposition.

I don’t care if you “don’t care.” However you said to the effect McCain never worked with conservatives. Fred Thompson is a conservative. You were wrong.

Not at all. McCain was no more "working with conservatives" when he got Thompson to help him pass his abomination of a CFR bill than Jesse Helms was "working with liberals" when both he an Hillary Clinton worked to pass the Iraq war authorization bill in 2002. The fact you are using CFR as an example of working with conservatives shows how sad your candidate is.

“post of the day”?! Wow...I’m honored! :-) I hate writing stuff like that, but it seems a little obvious.

You get more than that.

You get four years of being told to STFU and quitcherbitchen, because, "YOU voted for him, you knew what you were getting, and you chose to vote for him. So shut up and take it!"

We ought to be used to it by now, having had our faces rubbed in it for the past several years.

Me, although I abhor bumper stickers on general principle, I will make an exception, and proudly display, "Don't blame ME, I didn't vote for him!"

Custom bumper-sticker: $5.00
Self-respect: Priceless

Its too bad he won't have conservatives voting for him, maybe he should stop attacking them. He cannot win without his base and he does not have the base. Conservatives are going to stay home and they are going to spend a billion dollars against him, the 'right' won't spend nearly as much and the media is in the tank for Obama.

and somehow John McCain thinks he is going to win with independents.

ha

I will appoint Democrats to my administration.

Did Clinton appoint Republicans to his administration? He fired each and every one of them.

John McCain makes me sick!
