Press Releases Contact: Brendan Daly/Nadeam Elshami 202-226-7616 For Immediate Release 05/15/2008 Pelosi Statement on California State Supreme Court Ruling on Gay Marriage
Washington, D.C. Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement in reaction to the California Supreme Courts decision today to strike the state ban on gay marriage:
I welcome the California Supreme Courts historic decision. I have long fought against discrimination and believe that the State Constitution provides for equal treatment for all of Californias citizens and families, which todays decision recognizes.
I commend the plaintiffs from San Francisco for their courage and commitment. I encourage California citizens to respect the Courts decision, and I continue to strongly oppose any ballot measure that would write discrimination into the State Constitution.
Today is a significant milestone for which all Californians can take pride.
when...def not IF the big one hits Nor-Cal, the only thing that would surprise ME....is if half the military sent there for support didn’t ditch by becoming Consciencious Objectors. I would if I were in the military and was informed that I had to go help all of the over-liberal-conservative-hating-those-can-speak-but-only-those-that-agree-with-us mindless morons. And trust me, after living and working Downtown SF for a year...it’s much scarier than I even I had initially thought.
haha funny you mention that - while my husband and I lived up in San Fran last year, I had a bumper sticker that read “Hetero Pride” with blue rainbow on it. It was defaced with the following “ you are suppressing your homosexual tendencies”...LOL
Guess so much for OUR rights to have an opinion!!! Not up there, no way, no how!
“If these people keep pushing, theyre going to start a civil war.”
I think that might be a bit more accurate than anyone really wants to admit. I know a lot of people that have had that very opinion. Some people shoot it down with “no, we learned from the civil war how well that would work”....but I still don’t think it’s going to be as easy as people think.
O.K. I was wrong on the number of signatures - it’s more like 360,000. Fortunately, someone’s already been on it and it’ll likely be on the November ballot in California. It’ll be worded the same way as the law that was just struck down by the California Supremes, but it’ll be a Constitutional Amendment instead of a law. The law passed with 61% of the vote.
All you people bad-mouthing Pelosi should be ashamed! According to Archbishop Wuerl of Washington, and Archbishop Niederauer of San Francisco, Pelosi is a GOOD CATHOLIC.
The proof:
The next time Pelosi marches up to either Wuerl or Niederauer for Communion—he will give it to her.
There is no more definite and conclusive way that Wuerl or Niederauer could announce his agreement with Pelosi that gay marriage is a Good Thing, and completely consistent with Catholic teaching.
In order to get Wuerl’s and Niederauer’s message out to the public, it is a high priority to make sure that there is VIDEO every time Pelosi receives Communion.
Her bishop is Niederauer. Need I say more?
Keep flipping off God, California. These liberals are crazy in the head.
So, Pelosi is going to be one of the first to exercise her new right (if she can find some ol’gal who can stomach her sniveling and whining).
It’s as valid an argument as yours and ends up with the same results.
Thank you. I needed that. ;)
