Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper has bowed out of the race for Colorado's last open superdelegate seat at the Democratic National Convention, giving Barack Obama an opportunity to pick up a vote.
Hickenlooper has been neutral, but the other major candidate for the superdelegate seat, former Mayor Federico Pena, is an Obama supporter.
State Party Chairwoman Pat Waak said there were four candidates for the open superdelegate position (Hickenlooper, House Speaker Andrew Romanoff, Lt. Gov. Barbara O'Brien, and Pena).

Hickenlooper, Romanoff and O'Briend have all withdrew their names, leaving Pena the likely superdelegate.
Other candidates could emerge before the seat is filled at the state Democratic convention on Saturday.
Waak announced Hickenlooper's decision Wednesday but did not give a reason.
The national convention will be in Denver in August.
Is that his real name?
With such a name, I can’t imagine them doing anything. lol
A big nonstory.
Maybe this is the best way he can avoid having to attend the event. If so, I can’t say that I blame him.
He should change his name—from John to Huckabee Hickenlooper, after the little-known drifter who delivered Skeezix in Gasoline Alley.
I’m not sure that it is. It sounds like friends of Hillary who decided to step aside rather than have to cast a pressured-vote for the old cow.
Yes, his real name.
He owned (still owns? I don't know) several restaurants/microbreweries in Colorado & was some kind of geologist before that, iirc. I don't know if he is popular in Denver or not, but his Wiki article says he won reelection with 87% of the vote. I'm sure he has aspirations other than Colorado.
Hickenlooper just wants to get out of town that week!
