I saw a whole bunch of references while I was researching tonight’s thread. Baum and his partner Denslow maintained there were no overt political references in “Oz”, although Baum himself was a Republican journalist with an op-ed column.

When I was in ROTC at the University of Illinois we used to take the train up to Chicago for the weekend. We’d get into Union Station and grab a cab to a place I dimly remember as being south of the Loop somewhere called Shorty’s Tap. It was run by a guy who had been one of Singer’s Midgets and had been in the movie, and ran the bar which was tailored to his size. Barstools stood about 2 feet off the ground, the bar was about knee high, and Shorty served 7 oz. pony’s as if they were full sized beers. It was always a fun place to start the weekend off at.

start the Wizard and have PinkFloyd's the Darkside of the Moon ready to play.
when the lion roars for the THIRD time... hit the play button.
oddly enough, it with tracks the movie

My husband fell of a 3 story building fighting a fire many years ago. They didn't know if he was going to make it but he did.He had a body cast,a leg cast and an arm cast so he was stuck in bed on the 2nd floor.Once a week the firemen would come over to keep him company and have a couple beers in the bedroom. One day my neighbor said if I hear that song Ding Dong the Witch is dead I am going to scream. We lived in a row house at the time. The guys loved it and they would have their beers and sing that song over and over, sometimes 10 times.I remember that.
