Prayers for Jim Robinson
May 14, 2008

Posted on 05/14/2008 5:16:40 PM PDT by trussell

Prayer Request

Jim Robinson is having surgery tomorrow, May 15th

See the posts below for information about this procedure.

Jim Update:

It has been a frustrating day, I finally have a update for everyone.

I called Jim at the hospital. The nurse was in his room and gave him the phone. Sheila took his cell phone to him so I will be able to contact him easier. Also they took his laptop.

Due to major pain killers, he was able to sleep in the bed last night and was in bed when I called.

He sounded better than he has for the past few months.
He will be there for at least one more night; maybe more depending on decisions being made tonight.

They may remove Jim's left leg at the knee tomorrow. The docs have told him that the poison in that leg is going to continue causing problems.

Jim is really reluctant to let them remove the leg but I told him that if it will relieve the pain and stop all the damage it is doing to his internal organs, he should let them take it. Jim cannot use his legs now. He only has limited use of his right leg and no muscle remains in his left leg. The muscular dystrophy has done a number on his muscles while he has been ill.

I hope this makes sense.

When I hear what the decision is, I will let you know. In the meantime, Jim needs our prayers tonight and tomorrow.

Father, hear our prayers.

Thanks for all the updates, Amy

I just talked to Chris and he said that Notpoliticallycorewrecked is visiting with Jim at this time.

He also said that the Doctors have decided that tomorrow Jim has to make the decision about his leg

The Doctors believe, as you stated, that it has to be removed to keep the infection from spreading.

So I imagine that is the decision he will make.

Don't worry about him getting online, he has an “air” card so he can get online anywhere.

He misses being able to read and post here tremendously naturally. This is his baby.

Good news that the swelling has gone down dramatically in his left leg and that for the first time in months he is not in pain 24 hrs a day and was able to sleep more than usual.

Chris had no idea how long he would be hospitalized, but I would imagine it will be several more days, especially if the operation on his leg is done soon.

Good advice you gave Jim, Amy.

Yes, Mama Bear don't hesitate to visit, it will be highly appreciated and encouraging to see such good friends as you and that jk I'm sure

Jim is blessed indeed to have family that are watching over him closely and taking care of his needs, getting him to the hospital and other numerous tasks

And the legion here that are pulling for him.

Today's short update:

I just talked to Jim; the surgery will be performed tomorrow. He doesn't know what time yet. He said he is feeling pretty good. Also, he slept off and on last night. May have been due to the stress.

I am going to try to see him this afternoon. He has some tests scheduled but he doesn't think they will take very long.

He is not allowed to have his laptop in the patient area so he cannot get online until he can get down to the lobby.

His words ..... "Please tell everyone how much I appreciate their thoughts and prayers. Oh Yeah ..... tell them I'll be back online as soon as I'm able.

Anyway, thank you for your prayers.

I had to read a long time to catch up. My job has kept me perpetually busy this whole week-end; plus some extra activities. I've kept you in my prayers though, Jim. I'm glad to know that things are going well. Prayers for a fast recovery and freedom from any further pain.

You know girls, I've been giving this a lot of thought. I saw the young man who is suing to run in the Olympics on two prosthetic legs, and it occured to me that with a prosthesis Jim might be able to walk again. Wouldn't that be a kicker? The MD had wasted the leg, so maybe the new leg can hold his weight. Praying for a miracle.

Thank you.

Hopefully I will get a report this afternoon.

I think one of the sons stayed with him at least part of the night.

BTW, as far as SF goes, I have lived in harsh winter areas, but I have NEVER been so cold as I was one day in July (I think) at Ghirardelli Square. The wind coming off the water was bone-chilling cold. :-(
Someone once said "I never experienced a worse winter than I did one summer in San Francisco"

My car was parked in the sun yesterday and I went out to get something and it was 115 inside of it. I'm glad I didn't have any ice cream in there!

After my leg was removed, I went to a rehabilitation center for a couple of months, then got a prosthetic leg. I live alone, which might have affected things. After a few weeks of getting used to the prosthesis I was discharged. I guess his previous medical condition will determine whether he feels phantom pain in his leg or not

That is good information, thanks.

They do have a unit at the facility for those that need to take advantage of those services. I spoke to several Vet that had been through the program and they spoke quite highly of it.

It seems like it worked out well for you also.

Jim hasn't experienced any phantom pain, but has experienced itching in his ankle.

I vigorously scratched the area of the bed where his ankle would have been and it seemed to give him some relief. (He may have been just humoring me, because I noticed he was grinning.)

An itching sensation is viewed as a sign of the healing process so it is a good sign.

He exclaimed that when he moves his new "abbreviated" leg that it feels like he is moving his whole leg.

From observing the incision and speaking to the nurses who change the dressing it looks like they did an excellent job, and there is virtually no swelling or complication.

Great news, Syncro.

Are you posting from the hospital?

How did Jim sleep last night?

Does he have any words of wisdom for us this today?

Posting again for Amy
Thank You

Good Afternoon, Everyone!!!

Another Jim Update:

Just got a call from Syncro. He called from the beautiful FReeRepublic Towers in Beautiful Downtown Fresno.

He will be leaving soon for the hospital.Chris just got home from spending the night at the hospital.

Yesterday they took Jim’s power chair and a backless stool to the hospital.

They were able to get Jim into his power chair. This morning the Therapist was in and Jim was able to go to the gym and get a little excercise.

Syncro is going to post some pictures later.

Getting out of bed into his power chair must have been a big relief for Jim; he has been wanting to get out of bed since yesterday.

I expect to get at least one more report today.

MamaBear and JKphoto are in route to visit and Syncro will also be going back very soon.

Keep praying .... it’s working!!!
