BeiChang is/was a beautiful city, Communion. It sort of reminds me of what I pictured the fictitious city "Shangri-La" would look like from the book "Lost Horizon."

I do think BeiChang is straight out of "Shangri-La." Much of China close to the Tibetan border has otherworldly landscapes and these have been depicted in Chinese art and poetry to haunting effect.
