An earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale has hit China's Sichuan province. The tremor was felt across the entire region - shaking buildings in the capital, Beijing, as well as the Thai capital, Bangkok, and Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam. US Geological Survey said the quake struck 57 miles north-west of the city of Chengdu at 2.29pm local time (6.28am GMT).
Some 10 million people live in Chengdu.
they will get a FR vacation if they keep up
then I bet they will come back under a fake chinese user name just to make the “good” chinese on this thread look bad.
I really need to get to sleep, but I keep putting it off because I don’t want to wake up in the morning and see the numbers have climbed.
My son is in middle school here. Seeing that picture really makes my heart hurt for those children and their parents.
HERE IT IS....
Contact made with quake-struck Wenchuan
MORE than 30,000 people are now safe in shelters in Wenchuan County, Sichuan Province, the epicenter of yesterday’s 7.8-magnitude quake, said the head of the local government early today.
Wang Bin, Party secretary of Wenchuan, was contacted at 1:15am today via a satellite phone call. It was the county’s first contact with the outside world and came almost 11 hours after all telecommunications lines were cut due to the earthquake at 2:28pm yesterday.
Wang said most of the houses in the county had collapsed and residents chose to stay away from their homes out of fear of aftershocks.
Wenchuan needs tents, food, doctors, medicine and satellite communication facilities, Wang added.
The scale of damage in the nearby counties of Yinxiu, Xuankou and Wolong remained unknown due to damaged communications and transport networks.

Get off of your high horse. Do you think that you hold the compassion card on the poor victims over there? Well you don't.
And if you choose to be a fool and sit here while people who signed up today defend the commie gov't and talk b.s. you can. When the moderators tell me not to question them, I will stop. But not because of your self-righteous post.

Good news, indeed.
who?
A record from Online Game “World of Warcraft”:
Our raid team was attacking the Black Temple yesterday afternoon, then the main tank offline suddenly. He is living in Sichuan! We all hope he can tank the disaster! We hope the earthquake breaks his web line only! He must be survived!
Oh God, light be with you...
It’s time to take it easy now. Please.
Will do. Good nite.

I just want to discuss the earthquake. Not anything else, ya know?
Those threads have their time and place.
Good night everyone. And to those of you posting or reading here from China, I will say a prayer that today you will find some miracles.
Wenchuan is reported to have a population of 118,000.
only 30,000+ are in shelters in Wenchuan
where are the rest of the people in Wenchuan?
The closest town to the epicentral region is the town of Wenchuan itself, which lies on the Minjiang River. Though 30 miles (50 km) away from the epicenter, this town appears to be close to the fault structure itself, so damage is expected to be significant. Wenchuan is reported to have a population of 118,000.
