An earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale has hit China's Sichuan province. The tremor was felt across the entire region - shaking buildings in the capital, Beijing, as well as the Thai capital, Bangkok, and Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam. US Geological Survey said the quake struck 57 miles north-west of the city of Chengdu at 2.29pm local time (6.28am GMT).
Some 10 million people live in Chengdu.
Trades like how???
Do you have any updates on the quake?
CONGRATS AT ALL EFFORTS . . .
especially COURAGEOUS EFFORTS
TOWARD TRUTH.
God’s peace and Truth to all who seek truth.
I am in Shanghai now, I watched the news on TV this morning, so far more than 9000 people dead(on confirmed report), around earthquake center, 90% building broke down, the Panda research center of Sichuan has no message came out yet, on one can reach them, all the telephone communication were damaged. more than 6000 airborne soldiers landing on earthquake center few hours ago for succor.
sad 2008..
Good post adcycn, xie xie. This thread is about earthquake terrible news. Many here pray for help from suffering for your country people.
But some show black heart. Politics is same everywhere.
thank you guys. thank everyone pray for vitcims in quake, you are all nice.
Then why spend so much of your post on defending your gov't during this huge tragedy?
Welcome to Free Republic.
Thank you for sharing the news you’re hearing about the ongoing emergency rescue operations. For those of you directly affected by the earthquake, thank you for taking the time to share your first hand experiences.
Prayers for all those affected by this earthquake. God Bless you.
Thank you, thank you very much.
It may not easy, but truth always prevails at last. And China wont be an exception. I have faith in it.
Amen! We’re all trying to get data, and .. all our new freepers..are trying to get data, too?
Ain’t hardly no data!
But everybody here is sick and crying about this, really, as it was mostly children and workers, as school was in when the quake happened.
defending gov?no,it’s my analyse to the gov’s action, which needed to explain the truththat we can touch the world even through a partly blocked internet.
if you regard any good words with chinese gov as lie or brainwashed, hehe, that’s you who focus on politics, not me.
communicate with each other means listen and see,not refuse or decline.
it’s not a good day to talk about these things, let’s focus on the earthquake.
thank you very much.
my family are not in the stricken area, though we really feel the seismic waves when it happens.it’s a really huge earthquake.
That's a good post? Insulting people on their site?
Maybe patriotism? I’m sure the Chinese love their country as much as we love the USA. Really, this thread is about a terrible tragedy and the people. Politics be damned, at a time like this. This is the time to reach across the ocean in friendship. I’ve been to China many times in the past 15 years and the changes have been remarkable. And the Chinese people are loving, caring, and honest. And I truly can say I have made many lifetime friends there.
Please do not include me in your comments. I neither wrote what you are quoting nor care to respond to it. Thank you.
We know chinese and english and can find any type of information in worldwide while most of you dont know chinese, haha, maybe we make judgement more wisely and fairly than you?
That’s a good post? Insulting people on their site?
i’m sorry if you are insulted.
Maybe i should see more films of america to practise my sense of humor. :)
its not a good day to talk about these things, lets focus on the earthquake.
I've listened and seen, and I'm replying. Your gov't is communist. Don't tell me to focus on the quake when you spent the majority of the post building up communists.
I'm surprised you're here. Surely you've heard of this site which updates the situation frequently, and offers more info than we have.

Maybe. But I don't see why you'd be thinking about that right now.
Thank you for posting that! And thanks for the translation. What I loved about the video is that even without the translation, it seemed so much like our American college culture. Two guys in a dorm room, realizing there’s an earthquake...stuff falling all around them, one starts filming. They hide under desks, a few profanities, a few laughs, then one starts to put on his shoes. It was great that they were okay, and added some levity to this serious subject. But that’s college for you, I suppose. :)
