An earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale has hit China's Sichuan province. The tremor was felt across the entire region - shaking buildings in the capital, Beijing, as well as the Thai capital, Bangkok, and Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam. US Geological Survey said the quake struck 57 miles north-west of the city of Chengdu at 2.29pm local time (6.28am GMT).
Some 10 million people live in Chengdu.
I’ve raised 5 kids and have 11 grands so don’t preach to me about the importance of children. My comment was directed at the phony headline designed to elicit sympathy from airheads who think children are the only victims in a quake. Kinda like you I guess.
So you’re gonna bring a quake my way? Nice sentiment for one so attuned to the touchy feely manipulation of the MSM.
This is a helpful tip for those Chinese who are buried but are still watching television and who can crawl to the refrigerator.
How sad.

My wife is from China. I am suprised that you are able to post to this site from China.
Just a FYI, this quake was as far from a New or Full moon as it is possible to get, for the “full moons cause earthquakes” crowd.
I don’t know what to say....
It is NOT MY disaster
It is everybody’s disaster!
This is actually in the spatial series drawing an equatorial great circle arc around the earth the past week, which would either mean the planet is about to split in half or a pole shift is beginning.
Or, far more likely, nothing happens.
I've been to China, and I have been able to read Free Republic. I've not tried posting from there, though.
I was somewhat surprised that I could access the site, but it wasn't a problem.
When did the Chilean volcano let go relative to moon phase? I don’t follow moon phase in the summer since it is light and the moon is too low to bother with.
Prayers for all in harm's way.
You are correct. Could be mere coincidence.
The news writers for most organizations now read Wikipedia, geocities, myspace for facts on news stories....it is scary.
Looks like this earthquake may well have been triggered by the continual movement of the Indian plate into the Asian continent. The Himalaya Mts were, and are still being, formed from this slow motion collision which began around 50 million years ago.
Geology of the Himalayas (Origins and growth):
"In the Upper Cretaceous (84 Million yrs ago), the Indian plate began its very rapid northward drift at an average speed of 16 cm/year, covering a distance of about 6000 km [~3600 miles], until the collision of the northwestern part of the Indian passive margin with Eurasia in early Eocene time (48-52 Million yrs ago). Since that time and until today, the Indian continent continues its northwards movement at a slower but still surprisingly fast rate of ~5 cm/year..."

I don’t think that our President should be using our money to help China.
JMO.
Is quirks plural for quark?
Just tell me your agent identification number, and your commanding officer's name, and we're cool.
It is NOT MY disaster It is everybodys disaster!
Agreed. Of course -- and let your superiors know -- if your country tries to take Taiwan, the bigger disaster will be the nuclear exchange that will shortly follow.
Just lettin' you guys know.
FWIW, I’ll be pleasantly surprised if the Chinese government takes us up on our offer.
