I don't happen to see McCain as the best friend our toops or nation have had. In fact I think he's one of the worst either have had. When you study what John did with regard to the MIA issue, you realize John doesn't hold any respect for anyone but himself, even if he has been in the same exact position and should know full well the weight of his actions.
Closing Gitmo isn't going to help our troops. The stopping of waterboarding isn't going to help our troops or our citizens. Granting access to our courts to terrorist so they can out our methods and contacts won't help our nation or troops. It will put us all in jeopardy. And granting Geneva Convention status to terrorists is simply unforgivable.
Here's more of my thoughts and concerns related to the troops.

Look, McCain voted to affirm Ginsberg. I don't have any idea what leap of logic you are using to think he'll appoint O'Connors, but Sandra Day O'Connor used to vote against us about every single time.
As for a dodge, sorry bud, I'm not the guy who has had it pointed out to him that McCain voted for Ginsberg, and then tried to play that off as of no consequence, or not indicative of what his future actions will be.
As for you putting me on your very small ignore list, I'd be honored. BTW, what does it say about you that you are so afraid of opposing views that you would ignore folks?

Yes, and it gives me no joy at all to reject a man like McCain, whose war record is matched by few living men.
Still, being better than Obama won’t make him a good President. He’ll just be better than the worst.
And even that is arguable. There are freepers who have made a good case against him because, as a Republican, he won’t have much opposition to his agenda from either party; whereas at least with a Dem president we’d have some Republicans in the legislature trying to turn back the destructive forces.
McCain is fairly plain-spoken. We know what he’ll do about illegal immigrants. We know where he stands on the First Amendment vs. McCain-Feingold. We won’t be able to say we were not warned. We won’t be able to say “McCain betrayed us.”
He is what he is, and an honored war hero he will ever be, but presidential timber he is not.

Folks on my ignore list — you’ve just been added, but only because you requested it, not because you otherwise quite qualify — are there because they are abusive, not because I disagree with them! Get over yourself. More vanity.
And you still haven’t answered the question. You say McCain isn’t so hot at supporting troops, citing POW/MIA issues and Gitmo. But again, the choice is between him and HillObama, and he’s obviously much better (less bad), a fact you ignore.
For the 4th time, you cite his vote to confirm Ginsberg. But confirming isn’t nominating. You seem to conflate the role of a Senator, in that process, with that of the President. While I’m sure I’d be disappointed with McCain’s picks of O’Connors instead of Robertses, I would — as I’ve said three times now with no *on-point* response from you — be far more disappointed with HillObama’s picks of young Ginsbergs. If you think begrudgingly voting to confirm is terribly indicative of whom he’d nominate, you’re living on another planet.
Added, per your request (not for abuse). Enjoy the, uh, honor. You obviously enjoy yourself a great deal! Your inevitable reply will be ignored.

I agree with your thoughts here. I would say though, that parts of John’s military record are good, and parts are not so good. A lot of my respect for John’s military record was destroyed by his actions related to the MIA issue and trade with Vietnam. John was a POW. I would expect such a man to go to the ends of the universe on behalf of other POWs or MIA men, and that didn’t happen.

Folks on my ignore list youve just been added, but only because you requested it, not because you otherwise quite qualify are there because they are abusive, not because I disagree with them! Get over yourself. More vanity. Try to be honest with yourself, even if you can't be with me. I said I'd be honored to be on your ignore list. I did not request it. It's up to you what you do. As for getting over myself... comments like that kindof hit me funny. I am merely arguing my side of the equasion, and getting frustrated your response is to tell me to get over myself. I'm not going to get angry with you no matter what you do, so trot on off now and never talk to me again like you have promised.
And you still havent answered the question. You say McCain isnt so hot at supporting troops, citing POW/MIA issues and Gitmo. But again, the choice is between him and HillObama, and hes obviously much better (less bad), a fact you ignore. I have no way of knowing what John will decide to do one year from now. He couldn't wait until all the MIAs were accounted for. Can he wait for the war to be wrapped up in due course? That remains to be seen. My take on it is that John's vision of sound policy is almost always different than what a Conservative's vision would be. Why should this issue be any different?
For the 4th time, you cite his vote to confirm Ginsberg. But confirming isnt nominating. You seem to conflate the role of a Senator, in that process, with that of the President. While Im sure Id be disappointed with McCains picks of OConnors instead of Robertses, I would as Ive said three times now with no *on-point* response from you be far more disappointed with HillObamas picks of young Ginsbergs. If you think begrudgingly voting to confirm is terribly indicative of whom hed nominate, youre living on another planet. You know, if you wish to bend yourself into knots to find ways to back McCain, so be it. I'm not going to. The best indicator we have prior to someone becoming President is to look at what actions they took before hand. All I have to go on is that John voted for Ginsberg, Kennedy, and Souter. I can't change that and I don't approve of it. If you want to wish upon a star that John won't let you down, great, but don't describe that as anything different than what it is. A wish. The worst sitting judge on the Supreme Court was affirmed with the vote of John McCain. That means that he approved of her being seated on the court.
Added, per your request (not for abuse). Enjoy the, uh, honor. You obviously enjoy yourself a great deal! Your inevitable reply will be ignored.
Once again, I did not request you to do anything. I do enjoy life. I guess you don't. As for this reply, I never form my replies just for the person I am addressing.

So you threatened to put me on your personal ignore list. You have stated incorrectly that I asked you to put me on it. You have told me I was full of myself for responding to you. You then told me you were putting me on the list and that you wouldn't be talking to me anymore. Then you came back to tell me that not only am I already on your ignore list and you have been talking to me, but by talking to me your new promise to ignore me is also being violated.
Okay, well thanks. Hope you feel better later.

What importance do you believe the 2008 Republican Platform will play in this Presidential election? What if anything can the McCain opposition do to influence it?
McCains people should dominate the convention. He has vastly superior numbers. Im not sure how anyone could change the platform without his approval. If someone disagrees with this, Id be happy to hear it, and an explanation along the lines of what you asked for.
You took the easy path, huh?
IMHO, you've already given up. To my mind, if I believed as you and your friends believe, faced with the political facts, I'd be wondering how to work the system to get the best respresentation possible.
These McCainophobac threads mostly serve as a vent for so-called True Conservative frustration and disallusionment . . . and a sardonic giggle.

>If the generation of 50/60 years ago were to be surveyed ...<
Last December I was going over some old records of investments. Way back when, I bought some AT&T when they controlled the telephone/fax communication system almost border to border and coast to coast. I found old records where I had owned some Pacific Bell/Nevada Bell. I have also invested in Southern Bell Corp. Just a couple of years ago I see that once again I am have invested in AT&T. Forty years and I’m back where I started, same company, same business with roughly the same returns.
I can’t help but wonder if this wasn’t planned by someone. Build a company and when the new ideas slow to a mere grind, make a law that such companies control too much of the industry and break them up. In comes a rush of new ideas but these people are thinking of today not next year. So let these folks get their new ideas planted and operating then bring back the long term operating engineers and once again give them the control stick.
I have seen the same thing take place with retail drug and food stores in city after city, state after state but on a shorter timespan. I don’t think that it was sheer luck that China chose WalMart to become its unnamed international representative. No somebody in China with an MBA from Yale did some serious scanning of various retail busnesses to determine who was most efficient at selling items in certain price ranges and at a specfic quality range. WalMart won the grand suprise gift without even knowing they had been invited to the party.
Franklin D. Roosevelt said something about, “If it happens, you can bet it was planned that way.” I used to think he was referring to political events but now I recognize that he meant everything that man has anything to do with.
When I realize how easily the ‘rulers’ control the entire world population it makes sense. Most people can’t bear the weight nor do they want to be reliant upon themselves for everything that happens in their daily life. That is too much responsibility for them so they bend to the wishes of ‘political rulers’. There is very few who don’t fit this mold. The mountain men of days gone past were the last truly free men of this country, living where they wanted to in the wilderness. I don’t think very many people, these days, could live for a single year without the assistance of electricity. Maybe 5% of the entire country might make it for 12 months. I know I couldn’t, too worn down physically and just too dang old now.
Now we have one corporation owning 40 other companies. Directing the complete path of existence to all their employess and their families. Remarkable that there hasn’t been another Tea Party.

You took the easy path, huh? I merely provided my point of view on the subject. It's up to you to categorize my comments. If this is how you look at it, that's fine with me. I would point out to you, that McCain is going to have about three delegates at the convention to every one others will have. Doesn't that put McCain is a pretty good position to dominate the platform committee?
IMHO, you've already given up. To my mind, if I believed as you and your friends believe, faced with the political facts, I'd be wondering how to work the system to get the best respresentation possible. Well, if you were a delegate to the convention, I would support you doing whatever you could. I am not going to be a delegate to the convention, so I won't have that opportunity. And as I stated, McCain owning 75% of the delegates at the convention doesn't leave a lot of power left over for those who oppose his views.
These McCainophobac threads mostly serve as a vent for so-called True Conservative frustration and disallusionment . . . and a sardonic giggle. I suppose some people's thoughts could be limited to that view, upon seeing this thread. A number of contributors to the thread didn'd seem to agree with you. Others may have.

Yes.
You did.
Thank you.
I merely thought that someone who exercised such interest and applied so much of their personal time in searching out and posting all those wonderful graphics might have previously prepared for the upcoming contest at the Republican Convention . . . and must certainly know something about inserting themselves and their values into the contest.

Thanks for more interesting food for thought there. Those perspective on the man made plans for business, as well as politics are interesting.
I liked the comments about dependence and don’t disagree. That comment about another revolution was something I think about from time to time also.
What we have going on today isn’t what our forefathers had in mind IMO. It would be interesting to see how they would deal with some of what we face wouldn’t it.

Perhaps it’s the wrong attitude to take, but I can’t imagine having to deal with the supporters of John McCain at the convention. That would be a true nightmare for me. I wouldn’t have the numbers to prevail. It would be shere torture to have to watch them do things I would disagree with stridently.
I can understand why you wanted to know what I thought we could do. I just wish I knew at this point.
