If you think four years of Hilabama will get us another Reagan, then you better think again

One of the thing I keep reading here on Free Republic is that a lot of conservatives are under the belief that if we get fours of Senator Obama or Senator Clinton that the American public would become so shocked and disgusted that they will be tripping over themselves in 2012 to elect a "true conservative" candidate. I have some issues with Senator McCain, however that's not the point here.

Lets look at the last 40 years. Only two presidential incumbents have lost their bid for re-election excluding President Ford. Ford was a special case, serving out the remainder of President Nixon's term. Even if you consider the 1976 election, the 1976 election came down to single county in Ohio despite all of the Ford's baggage. In fact we had two elections, where one of the candidate, the Vice-President, won extending the term of a two-term President (1988) and another election (2000) where another candidate, the Vice-President lost getting the majority of the popular vote, almost extended the term of the President. So it isn't easy unseating the President.

In 1992, the incumbent lost because the conservative vote was split.

Let's look at the 1980. In hindsight, it appears that Reagan blew out Carter. Governor Reagan soundly defeated President Carter in electoral college vote, however Reagan only receive 52% of the popular vote; Carter got 40%. Obviously the liberal vote was split by Congressman John Anderson. But what some people don't remember is that despite of Iran, the Soviets invasion of Afghanistan, stagflation, double digit interest rates, Billy Carter's Libyan fiasco, and the split at the democratic convention; the 1980 election was not decided until the final weekend before the election.

Some people say we can survive 4 years of Hilabama because we "survived" four years of Carter and 8 years of Bill Clinton. Four years of Carter got us 29 years of an Islamic Republic in Iran and 8 years of Clinton gave us the rise of Al Qaeda.

If Hilabama is elected, they will go to great lengths ensuring that they will never be out of power. They will leave no dime unspent in their pursuit of unabated democrat rule.

Your vote is your business. Just get all of the facts and be prepared to be disappointed.

“I will not vote for either major party candidate this time. I have had it.”

And that will prove what? That will benefit the country how?

Oh, right it is not how it benefits the country... only that it make you feel good that you used your vote to make a statement that you are not happy.

Bravo! You showed everyone. A truly independant thinker.

Just like Liberman.

I'll vote third party.

So will the 30 or 40 other voters I have some influence with.

I have also made my courier company unavailable to the local GOP to transport nursing home residents around the State to the polls to vote Republican. In 2000 my company transported over 300 voters to the polls at no charge.

Right now I am leaning toward Bob Barr.

If he doesn't run then I will make my annual trip to the Dry Tortuga's a little early this year. I reject Republican neoconservativism. They are fascists the lot of em and that is the choice Americans are asked to make...Between Republican Fascism and Democrat Socialism. Both parties mean to dilute our cultural heritage and expand governments power over the individual. Traditional conservatism has found itself wandering in the wilderness before and survived. It will do so again. Meanwhile we will not enable imperialistic neo cons or socialist democrats to dilute the principals of conservatism. Such principals are universal and untethered to any mere political party.

Ah yes....Another election season is upon us in which we will be bombarded with how important it is to 'vote for the lesser of evils', because otherwise the downfall of civilization is imminent.

No thanks. I ain't buying.

Yeah, me neither.

I keep thinking if it gets too bad, people will eventually take to the streets with pitchforks but then I look at states like Michigan and realize we've got a long way to sink before that happens, if ever.

Your points are all fine. Doesn’t affect my vote, however, because I don’t vote for liberals.

Are you saying that you don't understand the difference between Clinton, Obama, and McCain?

Oh, stop. I know the differences. Very, very little.

“It won’t be fun, but we will do it.”

Not if you don’t vote unless the candidates are just right!

I don’t believe that we will survive 4 years of Obama. Between Carter and Obama, Carter is the more conservative and the more experienced leader.

Once you’ve given that some thought, read on:

Obama has already pledged to get out of Iraq (prematurely). The resulting power vacuum will result in lots of violence and drive the price of oil through the roof. It will also show that he is weak...and we will be attacked on US soil again.

He fully intends to raise taxes to Clinton-era levels. Along with unbelievably high gas costs, the economy will tank.

He will enable illegals and thus encourage their entry into the US. Unemployment will skyrocket.

We may need your vote. I have no intention of voting for McCain unless the race is close. If your state has a close McCain/Obama race, please reconsider.

So was he lying in January or is he lying now? Or maybe you think he really changed his mind between then and now?

Is he just saying he’ll appoint people like Alito because he knows his liberal buddies in the Senate will not confirm them, and he can then appoint a David Souter?

I guess you believe he started the gang of 14 to get people like Alito on the bench.

You know what? I can sell you a great bridge that connects Brooklyn and Manhattan and give you a super deal.

You said McCain doesn’t like conservative judges. I gave you a source that repudiates your claim. Either put up or shut up.

Oh, stop. I know the differences. Very, very little.

Obama is a radical, Hillary has a history of corruption. Both of them are socialists or worse. Neither one of them has any useful experience.

McCain has had some hits and misses, but he is a huge improvement of either one of them.

It may seem cute to some to pretend that there is no difference; but this is not American Idol.

If you can't tell the difference, you should leave the voting to those that can.

My 23 year old republican, voted for Bush, is now for Bambi.I gave her a 90 second tour of 197-1981, assured her that Bambi will be even worse than Carter.
She doesn’t believe me but it will come back to her later.
I personally prefer Hill, I think she will get closer to the middle than bambi or mccain.

I won’t be scared into voting for McCain. As has been said, at least it will be on a democrat’s head, not a liberal democrat who calls himself a republican if bambi wins, and I would put money on bambi.

Yes. I saw that. I don't believe him.

McCain is on record because of that speech.

Obama and Clinton have both admitted in one of the early debates that there will need to be US troops in Iraq for a long time.

Obama spouts off how he would send troops into other countries fight AQ.

With dem president historically the country gives the other party the congress in the mid-terms.

Remember Bill Clinton’s mid-terms?

If you can't tell the difference, you should leave the voting to those that can.

So, in other words, "don't vote at all unless you are going to vote for my guy!" right?

Holy crap! When did the U.S. become a Stalinist regime where only two choices are allowed.

BTW, it's responses like yours that really make me want to vote for anyone but any of the three that have been "chosen" for us.

How dare you tell me that I HAVE to vote for McCain or don't bother voting? Where does it say in the Constitution that I have to vote for someone I don't like?

Why should we believe he changed his mind since January?

We don't. McCain is on the spot now. He must deliver or he will be a 1 term president.
