No predictions from me because the situation is so fluid. There are so many factors that could influence the results, many of them out of the control of either candidate. Right now, I would have to consider the Dems to be the favorite. They have a lot going for them, including a Rep president with very low favorability ratings, an unpopular war, and a flagging economy.

Duly noted. I think if Hillary loses and is not on the ticket she will join us and the “change” crowd will be toast.

I have long half-jokingly (only half, mind you...) quipped to friends and acquaintances that the primary Force which moves the cosmos is irony... /grin

I would cite the current state of affairs as supporting that contention...

Our self-anointed elites have worked diligently for decades to wrest control of the nation, and indeed our personal freedom and rights, from We the People. Now that they are so close to fully realizing their dreams, their euphoria blinds them to the other ascendant forces loose in the world which are going to wrest that control from them, shatter those dreams and destroy both them and us in the process.

It will be interesting to watch this unfold, however.

The popularity of the sitting president as a factor in the race is was overblown. In 2000 Clinton allegedly had a 60-65% approval rating and Gore lost. In Iraq the majority of Americans want us there until the job is done, ie until the Iraqis can maintain their own security. As for the economy, it was touted as the best ever by the Dems in 2000, all to no avail..
