Even in children, I see a strong cultural arguments in their decision making as well. In much of the world, the decision would be a very calculating one, based on the cultural imperatives given to them by their parents.

There would likely be a goodly number of even children who if given the information that the food might be distributed to their hated enemy, would offer nothing to any of them, in the hope that they would starve. And they would think of that as justice, since they have been taught that their enemy deserves to suffer and die.

American children are equally indoctrinated in the concept of “absolute” (as in mathematically absolute) fairness. They would be taught that race, religion, sex, etc., do not matter in fairness.

But this is likely the exception to the rule in the world.

However, what do you think are the odds that these researchers even considered that American children might be wired differently from foreign children?
