Oh for crying out loud , people!

You don't have to have 500 horses just to get your lone carcass to work in safety.I suppose we could all drive heavy battle tanks to the 7-11?

Anyway, I owned an Opel Kadett as my first car-it had a 1.1 liter 4 cylinder gas engine and 4 speed manual shift. But I never got 75mpg nor did I feel unsafe as it accelerated well enough for normal traffic.I drove nearly 100 miles a day at speeds to 75 mph right with the other cars.

We do still have speed limits and the truth is almost never do you need to drive at maximum speed of the car nor are most drivers qualified to drive that fast.I'd think the tens of thousands of dead people and smashed cars every year are proof enough.

Not all of us but, I'm sure there will always be those unfortunate souls whose shortcomings cannot be cured by anything else (even Viagra).

(And they'll continue to insist it's all about "safety." ;^)

“You don’t have to have 500 horses just to get your lone carcass to work in safety”

Don’t bother. One of my very few gripes about FR is that at the same time we complain about sand barons controlling our economy through oil, FReepers generally launch into the “my super hemi whatever will drive through that and not feel the bump” rant whenever anything that both preserves the personal freedom of automobiling and gets great gas mileage is announced.

“never do you need to drive at maximum speed of the car nor are most drivers qualified to drive that fast”

Anyway speed isn’t a problem for drivers, only *relative* speed. Five cars bumper to bumper doing 110mph are ok until someone merges onto the freeway doing 40. Or likewise, 10 cars doing 60 are all happy as clams until one guy wants to blow through at 90. Maybe Kid NeverDroveBefore and Granny WhereDidIPutMyGlasses can’t manage 110, but they struggle to cope with 70mph too.

Also ‘need to’ is almost a curse word here as libs use it all over when they mean “I want to take away your rights.” For example, “You don’t need to own a semi-automatic rifle” or “Nobody needs more than $150k income per year.”

I can relate. When I was a kid I owned a skateboard.

Nope. Most are stupid jerks who like to drink and drive, phone and drive, and simply not pay attention and drive. Size of vehicle makes no difference. To say otherwise is just liberal-mined, emotionally driven, hate SUVs garbage. The average liberal is an idiot and drives like one.
