LAUREN RICHARDSON - YOU CAN HELP!
By Judie Brown

It has been a source of ongoing sadness to read of the difficulties Lauren Richardson’s father has had over the course of the past several months. For those of you who are not familiar with her case, Lauren overdosed on heroin on August 28, 2006. She suffered oxygen deprivation and, as a result of the overdose, is now in a coma and unable to speak out for herself. At the time of the overdose, Lauren was expecting a baby. Her parents honored what they knew would have been her wish and did all they could to keep her healthy and comfortable until the child was born. Today, though Lauren may not be aware of it, she is the mother of Ember Grace, who was born in February 2007.

Since the birth of her daughter, Lauren remains unable to speak of her concerns, but she has a loving father who is doing all he can to protect her from suffering the same fate as Terri Schiavo. However, Lauren’s mother, who has been named her legal guardian, is sadly not of the same opinion and is working with attorneys to pressure the courts to permit Lauren’s starvation.

Lauren’s father has kept hope alive, even at times when there appeared to be no hope in human terms. Lauren’s father is a man of hope in Christ and is dedicated to spending every breath he has on defending Lauren, regardless of what it might cost him in physical exhaustion and worldly goods. The most recent update for those concerned about Lauren tells us the following:

We struggle at times as we seek to share with the public the details of what is happening with Lauren because of the disagreement we have with Lauren’s mother. We cannot understand her reasoning in refusing a path of hope, healing and restoration for Lauren and insisting on causing her death by withholding food and water from her. The issue in Lauren’s case is the eternal truth that all people, no matter what their medical condition, bear the image of God and deserve basic care and an opportunity to be restored to health.

Bobby Schindler, Terri Schiavo’s brother, has written about Lauren in an editorial earlier this year, "False Compassion," and is working closely with Lauren’s father in order to provide expertise that he is uniquely qualified to share during a trying time like this.

There are many links on the Life for Lauren web site that will assist you in tracking this case and learning who is supporting Lauren’s ongoing care and who is opposing it. More importantly, there is something you can do to express your concerns.

ACTION NEEDED NOW

The governor of Delaware, Ruth Ann Minner, is being asked by pro-life Americans across this nation to intervene in this case in order to save Lauren from what many fear is an imminent court order dictating that Lauren be starved and dehydrated to death. I am asking you to be one of those who communicates your passionate belief that Lauren’s life is sacred and deserves to be protected from those who would order her death. The governor’s e-mail address is governor.minner@state.de.us.

Further, it would mean a great deal to Lauren’s father, Randy, if you sent him a copy of your e-mail to Governor Ruth Ann Minner. Randy’s e-mail address is Lifeforlauren@aol.com

During a recent visit to Anchorage, Alaska where Bobby Schindler was invited to speak, he told a reporter from The Catholic Anchor, "Once we accept that killing is an acceptable answer to human suffering, we lose any type of parameters. Euthanasia is a form of abandonment. It is not compassion."

Truer words were never spoken. As I frequently tell people who argue that we pro-lifers are being heartless and cruel for fighting to defend the rights of a "hopeless case," "God is the author of every human being’s life, and He has never given permission to a single one of us to arbitrarily rob another human being of life for any reason including disability or illness."

As Flannery O’Connor once wrote on the subject of false compassion, "In the absence of faith, we govern by tenderness. And tenderness leads to the gas chamber."

Lauren Richardson is not terminal – she is severely disabled. Lauren Richardson should not be murdered.

Judie Brown is president of American Life League and a member of the Pontifical Academy for Life.

I wonder if this individual realizes what the party he loves beyond reason has done to damage his own race. I would hope he is not beyond confronting facts like those proffered by Margaret Sanger, and reality as espoused by our favorite Dr. Alveda King.

Some Black churchgoers are seeing the Holy Ghost because Sarah Palin can quote a Bible verse (‘Jesus wept’) or MAYBE clap on the 2 and the 4 beat in a Black church. Remember this:

George W. Bush was a born-again who stole two elections and believed God told him to bomb Iraq.

Dubya bamboozled y’all twice (11 percent Black vote) because he promised he’d outlaw gay marriage and ban abortion. For the first time in American history, gay marriage is legal (under his watch) in two states. His conservative Supreme Court has done nothing about abortion. Dubya couldn’t pass any ‘moral’ legislation even with six years of a born-again Republican congressional majority.

Jeb Bush is a bornagain who tried to put his nose in Terri Schiavo’s family business regarding the right to die. Th at’s one reason Americans dumped the GOP Congress in 2006.

The issues: economics, wars, education, safety, health care, justice. Th e choice: Change or Mc- Bush? STAY FOCUSED!

Black Christians voters must stay focused!

Terri and 9/11...

.................................

We now remember 9-11 in a time of post-solidarity. The War in Iraq has polarized a country, skewed the focus on terrorism, and left many in the military scratching their heads, wondering how some Americans feel about them. Recently we watched as a few groups, in a loud roar proclaimed what they were against, yet had no idea to whom they were speaking or what solutions need to be implemented.

The importance of life, so emphasized in the aftermath of attack, was later overshadowed once more by the culture of death. The specter of Terry Schiavo’s execution by starvation and other such incidents took over the news headlines. In fact, some of the same commentators who had celebrated life after 9-11, now nudged America’s conscience to call for death.......

Janet Rivera update...

......................................

FRESNO, CA, September 10, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Heart attack victim Janet Rivera, who, like Terri Schiavo, was denied food and water for 11 days in July, was saved from the specter of death by starvation Sept. 9, when her brother was named her permanent conservator.

"Praise God, this woman was snatched from such an excruciating death," said Judie Brown, president of American Life League in response to the new development. "Janet was spared the fate of Terri Schiavo, but still we hope this case exposes the threat that hangs over us all - government euthanasia for the sick, elderly and disabled."

The victory marks the final win for the Rivera family who has fought unceasingly for her life since she was placed in the hands of Fresno, California government officials in June. Rivera's public guardian ordered her death by starvation in July and had her feeding tube removed.

Public outcry ensued and Rivera's feeding tube was reinserted.

The 46-year-old woman suffered a heart attack in 2006. According to Judge Debra Kazanjian, Rivera's husband, Jesus Rivera, relinquished custody as he was unable to provide for Rivera's medical care. When doctors indicated Rivera might never recover, the public guardian ordered her feeding tube removed.

Rivera's brother Michael Dancoff plans to take his sister back to her San Francisco family where he hopes she will awaken and recover.

"We hope this case will shed light on the other victims of government abuse. Janet's case is not an isolated incident. Sick people all over the country are in serious danger of being denied their basic needs under the guise of compassion," Brown said. "None of us should feel safe while our right to food and water, ordinary care, is viciously trampled on. No one should die by starvation."

The Pentagon applies the clear reasoning that adult stem cells have application, and does not find use for the embryonic ones...

WASHINGTON, D.C., September 10, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - As scientists continue to gather evidence that adult stem-cells hold great potential for healing and rebuilding human tissue, The Pentagon has announced it is investing a quarter-billion dollars into the research, reports CitizenLink.com.

The Pentagon plans to speed research in a five-year initiative to further unlock the ability of adult stem-cells to stop scarring, rebuild tendons and grow bones, in order to aid injured military personnel. Adult stem-cell therapy works by harnessing the patient's own regenerative ability, since the cells are harvested from the patient's own skin, bones, or wisdom teeth....

For a topic the mainstream media, liberals and pollsters keep saying no one cares about, the abortion issue sure has been getting a lot of attention lately – have you noticed?

But I digress.

On ABC's "This Week" with George Stephanopoulos this past Sunday, Barack Obama tried to undo the damage he inflicted on himself at the Aug. 16 Saddleback Showdown with his now infamous "above my pay grade" response to Rick Warren's question, "At what point does a baby get human rights, in your view?"

But Obama hadn't learned. He tried once again to redirect the clearly constitutionally based question into something esoteric and religious, and therefore unsolvable:.......

Canadian doctor warns Sarah Palin's decision to have Down baby could reduce abortions

Sarah and Todd Palin's decision to complete her recent pregnancy, despite advance notice that their baby Trig had Down syndrome, is hailed by many in the pro-life movement as walking the walk as well as talking the talk.

But a senior Canadian doctor is now expressing concerns that such a prominent public role model as the governor of Alaska and potential vice president of the United States completing a Down syndrome pregnancy may prompt other women to make the same decision against abortion because of that genetic abnormality. And thereby reduce the number of abortions........

Haleigh Poutre update...

Buffy Spencer of "The Republican" continues to keep us up to date on happenings regarding Haleigh.

........................................

NORTHAMPTON - A 14-year-old girl hospitalized with a brain injury will have to participate in a competency hearing Oct. 1, a Hampden Superior Court judge said Friday.

The girl, Haleigh Poutre, formerly of Westfield, is a potential witness in a case against her stepfather, Jason D. Strickland. Strickland, and his wife, Holly A., were accused after she was hospitalized in September 2005 of abusing the girl. Last week Judge Judd J. Carhart said Haleigh would not have to testify in the competency hearing or during trial. Following an appeal from the prosecutor, Carhart said that the girl would have to participate in the competency hearing. He said based on information submitted to him by lawyers involved in the case he would decide whether the hearing would take place in a Springfield courtroom or at Franciscan Children's Hospital in Boston, where Haleigh is being treated.

Carhart Sept. 4 ruled in favor of requests by both lawyers appointed to safeguard Haleigh's interests and the state Department of Children and Families, who said Haleigh should not be forced to testify at a scheduled hearing on her competency or a trial because it will harm her. Assistant District Attorney Laurel H. Brandt had filed a motion for Carhart to reconsider that ruling.

Strickland, 32, formerly of Westfield, faces a series of assault and battery charges in connection with injuries sustained by Haleigh. Strickland was charged as a joint venturer with his wife who died within days of her arrest in what West Springfield police said was a murder-suicide at the hands of her grandmother. Under the joint venturer theory Jason Strickland would be held responsible for his acts against Haleigh and also acts by his wife, who was Haleigh's adoptive mother.

Defense lawyer Alan J. Black continued to argue to Carhart that he cannot prepare for Haleigh's competency hearing properly unless his expert can see Haleigh. Carhart denied Black's request to have access to Haleigh. The state Department of Children and Families has custody of the girl.

The issue of competency is being examined because Brandt has said that she expects Haleigh to testify against Strickland.

Black asked for Brandt's notes from her interview or interviews with Haleigh, but Brandt said she did not consider her contacts with the girl interviews and has no notes to turn over to Black.

Brandt said that she needs summaries of the opinions of experts Black might call at the competency hearing, but Black said there are no written reports and he should not have to create them for Brandt. Carhart asked him to give summaries to Brandt.

The trial date for Strickland has been moved to Oct. 30. Brandt asked for the two-week continuance from Oct. 16.

She said the chemist who is a key witness for the state as far as tying DNA and blood stain evidence to evidence at the scene is not available until the last half of October.

Amazing! Just amazing, I tell you. In a twist on the usual propaganda theme, they bend so as to show real conservatives are against the saving of Terri's life. To swallow their load, real conservatives would want innocent Terri killed and abhor those unreal conservatives who would wish to save her life. That is how lefties bend the truth.

...........................................

The funny thing is, I agree. Stack the traditional definition of ''conservative'' alongside the events of the last few years, and it's hard not to. It is, for example, difficult to find evidence of government getting out of people's way in the Terri Schiavo affair. Or evidence of lean, mean government efficiency in the Hurricane Katrina debacle.  Or evidence of fiscal restraint in a projected $500 billion budget deficit. Or evidence of foreign policy pragmatism in the invasion of a country that had not attacked us and did not threaten to. Or evidence of accountability in the eagerness to duck blame for all the above.

Conservatism, an ideology once driven by principle, has shrunk until its purview can be, and often is, delineated in three syllables: God, guns, gays. Worse, it has embraced a win-at-all-costs ethos and intellectual dishonesty that are, even by the seamy standards of modern politics, astonishing....

Yes, liberal logic works so long as the flowery words mask the intent. Here, we are supposed to think of abortion decreasing in number a very good thing, which it is. But it is the killing of humans. Sure it is good to slow abortion down, but it is still about killing. We should be overjoyed when a serial killer announces he is trying to quit and is not killing so many. And so the liberals lead with that good news to show Sarah Palin should really have killed Trig. (Gently, of course...) It looks so warm and fuzzy to put it that way.

.............................

Nevertheless, the abortion wars have been rekindled in this presidential campaign — the same battle lines drawn and the same fighting words uttered. What is this really about? Why do we keep yelling past each other?

For years now, polls have shown consistently that most Americans believe abortion laws should remain as they are; the sensitive issue of terminating a pregnancy, most of us agree, should be left to a woman, her physician and her conscience. As admirable as Gov. Sarah Palin’s decision was to bear her fifth child, Trig, after she and her husband learned he had Down syndrome, most of us wouldn’t want the government to force all other families to make the same decision. It’s not the business of any outsiders — any more than the difficult issues surrounding the case of Terri Schiavo were the business of Congress.....

NOKESVILLE, VA, September 12, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - In a moving example of paternal love and sacrifice, a man drowned earlier this week after attempting to save his disabled son, who had fallen into a septic tank on the family's Virginia property.

66-year-old Thomas VanderWoude and his 20-year-old son Joseph, who has Down syndrome and who is the youngest of seven sons, were working in their yard in Nokesville, VA when Joseph fell through a septic tank cover that had suddenly collapsed.  VanderWoude immediately jumped in after his son and managed to hold his son's head above the surface, saving his life.

By the time two men finally pulled Thomas out of the tank, he had been underwater for as long as 20 minutes. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

VanderWoude's son Joseph was in critical condition at Prince William hospital as he fought infection for several days, but recently began to improve...................

CHESTER, Wales, September 12, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - This week, a UK court heard the case of a mother who allegedly deliberately drowned her disabled child in a bath because she was ashamed and embarrassed by her daughter's cerebral palsy.

According to the Telegraph, prosecutor Michael Chambers explained to the court how Joanne Hill's husband had refused to give four-year old Naomi up for adoption, despite Joanne's inability to accept the fact that her daughter had cerebral palsy. He recounted the evening of the murder, November 26, 2007: "When the bath was full she told Naomi she was having a bath, but Naomi didn't want one. The defendant carried her upstairs and undressed her."

NEW YORK, NY, September 12, 2008 (C-FAM) - After nearly a year of soliciting signatures as part of a campaign for global "safe abortion," Marie Stopes International has little to show for it. Less than 500 people have signed an online petition which calls for "full access to legal, voluntary, safe and affordable abortions as part of comprehensive sexual and reproductive health care" around the world.

The campaign, which was co-sponsored by the pro-abortion groups Ipas and the UK-based group Abortion Rights, was launched at the International Global Safe Abortion Conference that took place in October 2007 in London, an event that was held in conjunction with the UN and UNICEF sponsored Women Deliver conference. Both the conference and the campaign seek to bolster international commitment to abortion and call "for women's access to legal, safe abortion to be recognized as a fundamental human right."..............................

CHARLOTTE, North Carolina, September 12, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - During the opening day of the Catholic Leadership Conference yesterday, Baker Oregon Bishop Robert Vasa clarified the teaching of the US Bishops Conference regarding voting in favor of pro-abortion politicians. The question of whether Catholics may remain in good standing with the Church while voting for pro-abortion politicians was raised.

Bishop Vasa responded referencing the document of the United States Catholic Conference titled "Faithful Citizenship", noting a pro-abortion stance disqualifies candidates from consideration by faithful Catholics.

LifeSiteNews.com spoke with Bishop Vasa after the session. Describing the deliberation among US bishops over the "Faithful Citizenship" document, he said: "When we were working on the document 'Faithful Citizenship', and the issue of whether or not a person's adamant pro-abortion position was a disqualifying condition, the general sense was 'yes that is a disqualifying condition'."...............

"Say it ain't so, Joe," or not, oh well... What a comparison! Our Governor from the Great State of Alaska hasn't even had hair transplants. Lauren Richardson waits out her fate in the Joe Biden State of Delaware.

..................................

South Carolina Democratic chairwoman Carol Fowler said that Sarah Palin’s “primary qualification seems to be that she hasn’t had an abortion.” This appears to have generated a firestorm, but conservatives have already observed that Palin’s primary disqualification seems to be that she hasn’t had an abortion.

The choice of Sarah Palin has without a doubt revitalized the Christian base of the Republican Party. It was instantly recognized that in Sarah Palin you had someone who did not merely say that she was pro-life, but had put her beliefs into action. The choice to take her son to term, despite knowing he had Downs Syndrome, was proof positive that she meant what she said. The fact that her daughter is also carrying her child to term despite being in circumstances that many proponents of abortion might consider ‘punishing’ shows that the most important values were passed along from parent to child.

It is argued that this is all well and good, because at least they had the choice. Sarah Palin would deprive people of the right to choose altogether. This misses the point. It isn’t a question about choice, but on whether or not the unborn human is an unborn person. If you think it is, then no ‘choice’ is possible.

Simply put, Christian conservatives have rallied to the support of John McCain because his choice of VP, Sarah Palin, not only has convictions but also the courage to carry them out.

Compare this to Obama’s selection of Joe Biden, who according to a September 7th, 2008, New York Times article, said, “I’m prepared as a matter of faith to accept that life begins at the moment of conception.” The article says that Biden “would not impose his personal views on others, and had indeed voted against curtailing abortion rights and against criminalizing abortion.”.....

The democratics do the cha-cha, hoping to make a killing on election day. Thread by wagglebee.

................................

Much has been made of the Democratic Party’s new platform plank on abortion. Jim Wallis has hailed the new language as “an historic step forward.” Is it? Well, Sen. Obama says that “words matter,” so let’s examine the actual words. It is true that the Democrats did add language stating that the party “strongly supports a woman’s decision to have a child by ensuring access to and availability of programs for pre and post natal health care, parenting skills, income support, and caring adoption programs.” This is good to know and does provide a certain moral symmetry to their promotion of tax-funded abortions through their support of “a woman’s right to choose a safe and legal abortion, regardless of ability to pay.”

Some observers, however, believe that the Democrats’ abortion stance is actually more liberal than before. The Wall Street Journal’s Naomi Schaefer Riley proclaimed? that it appeared that “the Democrats have accomplished the impossible: they have moved to the left on abortion” (Wall Street Journal, Aug. 20. 2008).....
