Crummy analysis of the GOP: Karen Crummy writes in the Denver Post. (Hint: "right-to-die"...)

........................................

Regardless of whether John McCain wins in November or how Republicans fare in congressional races, one thing appears certain: The Grand Old Party is headed for a change.

For months, if not years, Republican leaders have been calling on their colleagues to reinvent or reform the party, whose brand has been tarnished by a controversial war, a ballooning deficit, increased federal expansion into such issues as education and Medicare, and pork-barrel spending.

~Snip~

But more important, Republicans face a number of challenges, many of which are of their own making.

Saddled with a controversial war and a sagging economy, President Bush's approval ratings have fallen as low as 28 percent. Government spending and the number of federal personnel have skyrocketed. And Bush backed the largest expansion of Medicare since the program was created in 1965.

Sex and corruption scandals — involving Republican Reps. Tom DeLay of Texas, Mark Foley of Florida, Duke Cunningham of California, Larry Craig of Idaho and Ted Stevens of Alaska, to name a few — have plagued the party. Mismanagement of the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina made the administration look incompetent, and federal involvement in issues such as gay marriage and the Terry Schiavo right-to-die case made the party, a proponent of states' rights, appear hypocritical, critics have alleged..............

The Republican Party gets ready

"Change!" Change from living to dead in depressing intent.

Bob Unruh from WND writes about California on this thread by wagglebee.

..........................................

Just as Democratic presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama was in Denver preaching to a crowd of thousands of fans about the "change" he wants to see in the United States, his party compatriots in the California Legislature were making a "change," by approving a controversial plan that would allow nurses to assist terminally ill patients with suicide.

"AB 2747 allows a physician assistant or a nurse to opine that a patient is 'terminal,' and then push for unnatural death by 'palliative sedation,'" said Randy Thomasson, chief of the Campaign for Children and Families shortly after the vote...........

We still keep watch on Eluana Englaro in Italy, and all is quiet. I wonder if her plight opened the eyes of this lady. Thread by wagglebee.

RIMINI, Italy, AUG. 28, 2008 (Zenit.org).- People in favor of euthanasia often support it "for others," without thinking about the end of their own lives, contends a cancer patient who changed her mind about life after she was diagnosed with her terminal disease.

Silvie Menard, a French oncologist and consultant at the Center of Experimental Oncology of the National Institute of Tumors in Milan, Italy, spoke of her change of perspective in a conference at the Rimini meeting organized by Communion and Liberation. The annual meeting is under way through Saturday.

She said she had arranged for a living will, but as soon as she discovered that she was ill with cancer, she changed her mind.......

I could post all day on Governor Sarah Palin, but restrain and confine to topic. Wagglebee has a thread on Dr. Dobson's opinions.

...................................

Call it the Palin effect -- John McCain's choice of Alaska's governor Sarah Palin has motivated many conservatives previously reluctant to support his candidacy to surrender their enthusiastic support.

Notably among them is Dr. James Dobson, the very influential conservative leader, who heads the nationwide Focus on the Family organization. Dr. Dobson, who has flatly declared that he would not vote for McCain now says he will, and attributes his change of mind to the senator's choice of solidly conservative pro-life Gov. Palin to be his running mate.........

Dr. Dobson: I'd Vote for McCain-Palin

What a coincidence that Mrs. Palin resembles an actress on one of the cop shows. Is it Law & Order where Fred Thompson acted? VP pick Palin resembles Jayne Mansfield’s daughter.

This is Mariska Hargitay from Law & Order SVU. She could play Sarah Palin in a biopic. (an accurate one, not left wing propaganda).

A fascinating read in RenewAmerica today... as a new month begins with still no news on Lauren Richardson.

..............................

..........Many conservative writers have already concluded that Hitler was not a rightwinger, based mostly on his National Socialism.

Indeed Mr. de Carvalho's (as yet unpublished) lecture "The structure of the revolutionary mind," cites "The Dictators: Hitler's Germany and Stalin's Russia" by Richard Overy, which demonstrates the parallels between Hitler and Stalin.

I had noticed that the compatibility of Hitler's ideology with today's European relativism was brilliantly highlighted in Ben Stein's movie Expelled, and most poignantly in the scene in a former Third Reich mental "hospital" where patients deemed to be of no value to society were gassed (I couldn't help but think of Terri Schiavo). When Stein asked the tour guide at the museum what she would say if she could talk to the perpetrators of that horror, she simply said that was another era and they had their reasons for doing what they did. Thus she clearly would not feel justified in judging these criminals by her standards (assuming she had any). Here was a woman who had certainly been educated in Germany, either the communist East Germany or the socialist West Germany. Neither system prepared her to condemn Hitler's actions because these actions were based on the same world view that Germany embraces today, atheistic humanism based on a tenacious belief in Darwinist principles of natural selection, and the correlative notion that man has a moral right and even obligation to support natural selection with laws under which a race can be culled of inferior elements . Neither socialism nor "national" socialism reject this out of hand (a recent article on Kim Jong Il in the journal Foreign Policy shows that, like Hitler, the North Korean dictator has tried his hand at human genetic manipulation as well). Only Christianity does, and that religion is fading fast in Europe (while here Christianity is being absorbed by the Left. See here, here and here)...........

More from RenewAmerica today...

........................................

.............As for Barack Obama, his lack of experience is beside the point. What is troubling is that he lacks a moral compass. Here is a man who supports everything bad and wrong, from infanticide to gay marriage to euthanasia. His biggest regret is that he didn't vote to kill Terri Schiavo. He supports the murder of babies that survive abortion. Experience would never change that. Americans should never want or need that.

In Barack Obama's speech I heard arrogance and contempt, especially in his attack on Senator McCain's commitment to locating bin Laden. Others find Obama's engaging manner and phony charm an intoxicating combination. His oratory skills are seen in both statesmen and tyrants. While reaching out to his entranced crowds, their reaching back blindly has prompted Rush Limbaugh to wryly call Obama the "messiah." To have faith in Obama you must believe but not think and that is not the way to elect a president.

The Democrats' platform has been about energy and conservation as America's most serious issue, and that drastic cuts in the military budget are necessary to focus on issues at home. What can be better than a governor from a state where energy is a frontline issue? Palin's experience on energy exceeds that of the other candidates. She created Alaska's Petroleum Systems Integrity Office. She chaired the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission, strongly supported oil and gas exploration and even passed a tax on oil company profits as governor. With McCain's military experiences well documented and Palin's eldest son being deployed to Iraq, one can fully expect the new administration to be fully engaged on military affairs. For more information on Palin's experience see http://gov.state.ak.us/bio.html.

Palin's conservative credentials combined with Sen. McCain's congressional experience makes them a formidable team this election year. Palin is an excellent choice, and any objection by Democrats is without merit.

Time and again in recent times we invoked the experience of Governor Sarah Palin in hopes it may rub off on Governor Minner in Delaware, Biden country. We still hope with the tide of reason, some good nerves may be touched. Now that is real hope.

Eluana Englaro update...

...................................

AGI) – Milan, 1 Sept. – “They have the duty to respond with a suitable hospital. The regional authority is responsible for administration of health services and not responding to our request after the decree from the Court of Appeal is impossible”, said Vittorio Angiolini one of the lawyers of Beppe Englaro, the father of Eluana – the girl who has been in a permanent vegetative state for 16 years after a car accident.

Angiolini has sent an official warning to the regional authorities asking them to indicate, within 10 days, a hospital that is willing to administrate the final act of Eluana’s life.

On 9 July the Milan Court of Appeal said that it would be ok to suspend the feeding and hydration that is keeping Eluana alive.

However, both the hospital in which she is currently to be found and the public hospital at Lecco have decided that they will not accept Eluana in order to carry out the legal ruling.

Trig and Terri....???

From the American Thinker:

..................................

James Lewis
Contrary to all the pictures -- which I admit, make it look just as if Governor Palin is a woman -- I need to raise this urgent question for our friends on the Left.

We have been told by black authority Toni Morrison that Bill Clinton was our first black president, and that Justice Clarence Thomas is not black but really white.

We have finally figured out, with a lot of mind-bending help from Democrats all over the country, that Senator Obama is not -- repeat not -- half-white, nor half-Kenyan, nor Indonesian, nor Hawaiian,  but is really, honestly black.

Although the Rev. Al protested, he ain't black like me!

Not only that, Senator Obama has taught us all that babies who are born alive by mistake because the abortionist just blows it are not, repeat not, real babies. So it's ok to reverse them back into fetuses and liquidate them, as per specs.

It takes an unusually fine legal mind to understand these things.

Terri Schiavo, who even CBS News now admits may have been conscious when she was starved to death, was not a living person. Everybody on the Left agreed

But Down Syndrome babies like Sarah Palin's son Trig are not real persons either -- unless of course they are.

It all depends.

You see my problem. In her high school yearbook photo Sarah Palin looks like a really pretty girl  But appearances are deceiving. In Alaska, where little children aren't taught about transgendered identities  Sarah probably didn't get a real choice about her socially conditioned gender identity

San Francisco children are better off, thank heavens, and can choose whatever they would like to be -- M, F, gay, lesbian, trans or bi.  Or they could even make up a whole new gender, or just switch back and forth, depending on the whim of the moment. I mean, who really knows?

The feminist blog site menstrualpoetry.com  tells it like it is:

"After doing some research on this woman whom I've never even heard of before it became abundantly clear-Not only is Sarah Palin not a feminist, she is as anti-woman as Bush and McCain combined. That is the reason why McCain picked her; not because she is a woman and he wanted to be underhanded (which he totally did,) but because she's a Republican, conservative man who just happens to be in a woman's body."  (italics added)

I knew it, I just knew it.

Darn, there goes the women's vote.

James Lewis blogs at dangeroustimes.wordpress.com

Is Sarah Palin really a woman?

More incoming on awakening in a thread by wagglebee...

..................................

Three years ago, Terri Schiavo sparked a nationwide debate when she was removed from a feeding tube. Schiavo was in a permanent vegetative state with no chance of recovery. But there are as many as 300,000 other Americans who have survived brain injuries, only to be trapped in what's called a "minimally conscious state." They can't talk, walk, or eat, but they retain more mental awareness than vegetative patients.

For decades now, minimally conscious people have been all but written off by the medical establishment, warehoused in nursing homes, with little hope of recovery. But as CNN's Anderson Cooper first reported last fall, incredible new discoveries are changing the way doctors view these people.

It turns out some may have been misdiagnosed and may be more aware than previously thought. What's even more surprising is that after receiving the popular sleeping pill Ambien, some minimally conscious people are actually waking up.....

Bioethics and brave new world and us in a thread by wagglebee...

............................

..........In “The Emerging Brave New World,” Glessner says that ethic has led to the current debate in the political and cultural arena over issues such as human cloning, embryonic stem cell research assisted suicide and euthanasia.Glessner calls on Christians to take notice and do something about it.

“I believe that the church has fallen asleep and fails to fully grasp the extent to which our culture has fallen since 1973,” he told LifeNews.com. “The community of faith must listen to this wake-up call. It must resolve within itself to act and make the restoration of the sanctity-of-life ethic a priority in the coming years."........
