I know LA county covers a very large area, but how can NORMAL law-abiding, hard-working, honest Americans continue to live there?

It looks like many of the "normal" people are moving out.

Bureau of the Census figures for LA County [2006]:

Total population--9,948,081

White--4,660,343 [46.8%]

Black or African American--883,699 [8.9%]

American Indian and Alaska Native--49,164 [0.5%]

Asian--1,288,643 [13%]

Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander--27,701 [0.3%]

Some other race--2,749,249 [27.6%]

Two or more races--289,282 [2.9%}

Hispanic or Latino (of any race)--4,706,994 [47.3%]

In 2000 the population was 9,519,338 with whites being 48.7% of the population and blacks 9.8%. Hispanics of all races were 44.6%. In just six years, the demographics are changing fairly rapidly.

In 1990 there were 5,035,103 whites and 3,351,242 Hispanics of all races. The Hispanic population has grown by almost 1.4 million in 16 years.
