MND-B AWTs engage rocket team and heavily armed criminals
Multi-National Division – Baghdad PAO

BAGHDAD – Multi-National Division – Baghdad aerial weapons teams conducted operations against criminal elements in Baghdad May 10.

Following an indirect-fire attack in central Baghdad, an MND-B AWT made positive identification of a rocket rail at the point of origin in the Sadr City district of Baghdad used to launch the attack.

The AWT engaged a criminal element on site at approximately 6:40 a.m. with two Hellfire missiles. One criminal was killed, and the rocket rail and a shack were destroyed. Secondary explosions at the site also indicate that illegal weapons also were destroyed.

At approximately 10 a.m., an AWT observed five criminals east of Al Hajj Jabr in the New Baghdad district of eastern Baghdad. The criminals were heavily armed with a rocket-propelled grenade, two PKC light machineguns and two AK-47 rifles. The AWT fired two Hellfire missiles and killed all five men.

“As previously stated, if we observe criminals or terrorists committing a violent act, we will engage them in defense of the Iraqi people, their security forces and U.S. soldiers,“ said Col. Allen Batschelet, chief of staff, MND-B and 4th Inf. Div.

“If we can catch them before they commit a violent act, that’s even better as we are saving lives,” Batschelet said.

Press Release A080510a
May 10, 2008

Coalition forces detain a dozen al-Qaeda in Iraq suspects

BAGHDAD, Iraq – Coalition forces detained 12 suspected al-Qaeda in Iraq terrorists during operations targeting the terrorist network in central and northern Iraq today.

Coalition forces captured a wanted man and one additional suspected terrorist during an operation in Baghdad. The wanted man is believed to be an associate of an al-Qaeda in Iraq – or AQI – senior leader in the Northern Belt around the city.

Targeting the AQI network in the Abu Ghraib area, 25 miles west of Baghdad, Coalition forces used information from an operation April 20 to detain three suspected terrorists.

Iraqi and Coalition forces detained three suspected terrorists in Kirkuk during an operation targeting an AQI leader who operates in the Tigris River Valley.

Coalition forces used information gained from an operation April 24 to target an AQI liaison believed to be working with terrorists planning suicide car bombings. Coalition forces detained four suspected terrorists during the operation east of Bayji, about 100 miles south of Mosul.

“Coalition forces are working with the Iraqis to rid their country of violent, lawless terrorists,” said Lt. Col. Maura Gillen, MNF-I spokeswoman. “The people of Iraq have rejected al-Qaeda’s brutal extremism.”

“Desecration and Destruction by Hate”
By Joe Kaufman
FrontPageMagazine.com | Friday, May 09, 2008

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Last month was a difficult time for the South Florida Jewish community. On April 29, 2008, vandals defaced a Parkland, Florida synagogue with spray-painted swastikas and statements lauding Hitler. One week prior to that, another synagogue in nearby North Miami Beach was set on fire. Anti-Semitism is on the rise in South Florida, and it’s incumbent upon the community to understand what groups have created this atmosphere for the area.”

Assad Honors Martyrs On Syrian Martyrs Day

Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad marked Syria’s Martyrs Day, May 6, by visiting the Martyrs Monument at Qassiyoun Mount.

Assad was received there by Syrian Defense Minister Hasan Turkmani and Chief of Staff Lt. General Ali Habib. He reviewed the Honor Guard as a 21-gun salute was fired in honor of the martyrs, and later laid a wreath on the Unknown Soldier Monument, and recited some Koran verses. He also held a luncheon in honor of the children of martyrs.

During the ceremony, a student from the School of Martyrs Daughters gave a speech highlighting the sublime values of martyrs and martyrdom, and pledged to continue rallying behind the president’s wise and brave leadership and embodying the manners of martyrs in the great sacrifices they had offered in defense of the home. A group of martyrs’ sons and daughters also performed an artistic show highlighting the occasion.

Assad later met with sons and daughters of martyrs, and asked them to be outstanding in their study to contribute to the building of their homeland and society.

“’My daughter deserved to die for falling in love’”

SNIPPET: “Two weeks ago, The Observer revealed how 17-year-old student Rand Abdel-Qader was beaten to death by her father after becoming infatuated with a British soldier in Basra. In this remarkable interview, Abdel-Qader Ali explains why he is unrepentant - and how police backed his actions. Afif Sarhan in Basra and Caroline Davies report”

Afif Sarhan in Basra and Caroline Davies
The Observer, Sunday May 11 2008 Article history

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “She died a virgin, according to her closest friend Zeinab. Indeed, her ‘relationship’ with Paul, which began when she worked as a volunteer helping displaced families and he was distributing water, appears to have consisted of snatched conversations over less than four months. But the young, impressionable Rand fell in love with him, confiding her feelings and daydreams to Zeinab, 19.

It was her first youthful infatuation and it would be her last. She died on 16 March after her father discovered she had been seen in public talking to Paul, considered to be the enemy, the invader and a Christian. Though her horrified mother, Leila Hussein, called Rand’s two brothers, Hassan, 23, and Haydar, 21, to restrain Abdel-Qader as he choked her with his foot on her throat, they joined in. Her shrouded corpse was then tossed into a makeshift grave without ceremony as her uncles spat on it in disgust.

‘Death was the least she deserved,’ said Abdel-Qader. ‘I don’t regret it. I had the support of all my friends who are fathers, like me, and know what she did was unacceptable to any Muslim that honours his religion,’ he said.”

“2 wounded as rockets continue to fall”
By JPOST.COM STAFF

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Fighting between the IDF and Hamas gunmen escalated over the weekend, after a resident of Kibbutz Kfar Aza near the northern Gaza Strip was killed by a mortar shell on Friday evening.

Rockets pound western Negev

Jimmy Kedoshim, 48, was fatally wounded by a mortar shell as he was gardening in his front yard.

Hamas radio announced Friday night that the group took responsibility for the attack.

On Saturday, the Islamist group fired more than 20 rockets at the western Negev, wounding several people and damaging numerous buildings and courtyard areas, after five Hamas gunmen were killed and six wounded in air strikes on Hamas police stations in Khan Yunis and Rafah, the IDF said.”

OPINION: I think China plans and prepares everyday for all war scenarios. They seem to be quite focused and dedicated to their agendas. Nothing will stop them — except maybe themselves and the way the government treats the people in general.

AG bans shippiing horsemeat through Texas

Snippets:

Shipping horse meat through Texas that's destined for diners elsewhere is illegal, according to an opinion issued this week by Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott.

"Mexico kills horses, whether we like it or not, and people in France eat them. And sometimes the slaughterhouses like to ship the meat out of Corpus or Houston," Chisum said.

Horse meat from Mexico had been shipped from Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport until last year. The Tarrant County District Attorney's Office tried to stop the shipments and was unsuccessfully sued by two Belgium-owned horse slaughter plants, said assistant district attorney Ann Diamond.

Terror warning as firebomb is found in Cookstown toy shop

Snippets: Police in Northern Ireland last night issued a warning after a firebomb was found in a toy shop in Cookstown, Co Tyrone. The device is believed to have been planted by dissident republicans. An army bomb squad also searched a Tesco store in the town.

He said: 'Imagine targeting a toy shop of all places. These types of incidents were not acceptable in the past and they will never be accepted now in a society that is moving forward, leaving the type of people who would do this behind.
