Damn that double jeopardy prohibition in the constitution! If it weren't for that, they could retry them until they get a politically correct verdict.

You haven't been paying attention, have you. It has already been done a couple of times. Successfully.

The double jeopardy prohibition is as effective as the clear language of the Second Amendment...

Double Jepordy only prevents the same sovereign from trying a person for the same crime twice. So, the state and the feds can both try you for the same crime (assuming there is an analogous federal crime) and that will not violate the double jeapordy clause.
