There's that funny thing called principle that matters. If every person around you is a fascist and thinks torching jews is cool, you can join in the lynching or say "this is wrong" and not participate.
Some ice cream flavors are unpalatable: when do you say no?
Principles are not worth a warm pitcher os spit. The ability to persuade the people who have no principles is the only thing that counts.
Even in the USA principled people have little power. Those that believe in the principles of the left do not control who governs this nation. Those that believe in the principles of the right do not control who governs this nation.
It is the people with out principles that sometimes suport the left and then other times support the right that determine who governs this nation. The power to decide is in the hands of the swing voters who have no principles.
Even principles on paper are worthless. The constitution does not even contain the word abortion, but years ago a majority of the members of the Supreme court said it did and made abortion a constitutional right... not subject to laws written by the people. So the constitution is what ever the judges say it is.
But that has nearly always been true. During the Jefferson administration the Supreme court ruled in Marbury vs Madison that the man that wrote the constitution did not know what it said. Only the 9 justices of the supreme court could know what it said. The Supreme court asked, How could Madison know what the constitution says.. he only wrote it. Madison was not a justice on the court, like they were, so how could he know what the contitution says.
