Isn’t part of the reason that the AF brass (who are mostly pilots) want only qualified pilots who are officers to “fly” these birds..while the army uses enlisted men??

It isn't so much a lack of aircraft as it is the mule-headed insistence by the Air Force that these pilot-less aircraft be controlled (or piloted, if you prefer) by rated pilots. No one who has observed kids at a video arcade believes that the military needs a rated pilot for this sort of job.
