The most efficient, latest technology, super-wham-o-dyne combined cycle plants currently run around 60%, depending greatly on the weather and altitude of the plants.

I believe that the 70% mark was passed not long ago, but I do not believe any plants of that rating are in operation yet.

But much depends on the ambient conditions, and those kinds of numbers are only achievable under ideal conditions. So it's likely that real efficiency rating would be good deal lower under real world circumstances.

This is “Earth Week” in many of our public schools. Kiddies get to learn all about harmful fossil fuels, CFC’s, acid rain etc. My daughter and I studied for a Science test yesterday. Side one of the paper was the “good” side. It had a wind mill, a river, and the sun. Side two was the “bad” side. It had Oil, Coal, and Nuclear.

My 12 year old’s test will cover how fossil fuels are going to soon run out, how they cause acid rain, and how they make us sick and cause breathing problems.

We learned that CO2 is a pollutant found in the air. That causes global warming.

We learned that CFC’s once found in aerosols and air conditioners damage the ozone exposing us to the sun’s harmful UV rays.

We learned that we can help clean the air by using less electricity and driving less.

She explained that the test was going to be “super easy” because it will be multiple choice and the correct answer will be the only obvious one. Kinda like they’re making darned sure the kids answer exactly the way they want them to answer.

For extra credit, she can do a book report on any book that discusses the dangers of global warming.

My 12 year old remains a known skeptic but has to endure this stuff. We are looking for an age-appropriate book about the midieval warming period and how much society benefited from it.

The source of most of the junk I’m seeing seems to be a publication called “Time for Kids”.

Bush is an idiot.

This is yet more evidence.

CO2 is not a problem.

People who think CO2 is a problem are the problem.

He's an unpopular president on his way out the door. I'm not very worried about his proposals on the subject.

I'm much more worried about McCain's, not to mention the two Democrat flunkies.

Back in the dark ages, I was taught that the “best of the best” would be leading our country....The past few presidents have proven that to be WRONG.......

That appears to be the case. It's a matter of somebody who wants it badly is probably not fit for the office in the first place.

And those who don't are criticized for not having the "fire in the belly".

In the future I suggest all ‘conservatives’ be sent to Washington with a gas mask ready and available. This mask should be used on a daily basis to avoid inhaling whatever liberal toxin it is that these people are apparently breathing in as they stay too long in that God-forsaken town...

I for one, will relish the day these morons burn the last stick of their picket fence in a futile effort to keep from freezing.

You do recognize that you aren’t quoting Sen. Wirth accurately, right? To be fair, you should make it clear that he didn’t say “socialism.”

I don’t really care.

I don’t like it much, but it isn’t that ambitious really. We are talking 15 years from now. They can do the job in that time without hurting the bottom line really.

Maybe it is just me, but I don’t see how actually trying to be good stewards of what God gives us is a bad thing. I don’t think that is anti-conservative.

Radical environmentalism is anti-conservative, but not a willingness to do things....that will not kill or economy....to lead to positive changes.

Whether global warming is real or not really doesn’t matter.

His goal here is 15 years. That is a long time, and with gas prices the way they are, I am sure private industry will have long come up with a way to help reduce emissions by industry as well.

Kyoto is wrong obviously. But, I don’t see a need to get all pissy about this.

Why are you surprised that people are being “pissy?”

Global warming is a crock of shit; it’s just a means of imposing socialism on the United States and empowering politicians while taking away our freedoms and liberties on the basis of junk “science.”

Also, we expect moonbat bullcrap from the left-wing nut jobs who call themselves “democrats.” Many of us get upset when people we trusted....people who are supposed to be conservatives....like George W. and Newt.....sell us out and side with the socialist/communist enemy.

Just like Earth Day....I wouldn’t object to such a “day” if there were also a “Private Property Rights Day.”

Note that they don't list their source.

See page 362 of Michael Fumento's Science under seige (1993). You'll also find that Sen. Inhofe's citation of it on the Senate website references Newsmax's reporting that it was said in 1990.
