FLDS women seek Texas governor's help
Deseret News ^ | April 13, 2008 | Nancy Perkins

SAN ANGELO — A Texas judge on Sunday ordered law enforcement officials to immediately confiscate all cell phones in the possession of FLDS women and children now housed in temporary quarters here. "I just called to say, hi. They are about to collect the phones, I think," one soft-spoken FLDS woman said during a telephone call to another member of the Fundamentalist LDS Church who was outside of the shelter. "I don't like what they're doing."

Several of the women inside the shelters spoke by cell phone to the Deseret News on Saturday to describe the living conditions there. Children could be heard crying in the background of each conversation. The News published an article on Sunday, quoting the women who complained there was no privacy and that their children were getting sick.

FLDS faithful outside the shelter are convinced Sunday's court order is a direct result of the women speaking to the newspaper.

"This is nothing more than retaliation of Child Protective Services to punish those who were disclosing what is really happening behind the walls of this concentration camp," said Don, an FLDS member who asked that his last name not be used. "These are my family members."

Pay attention closely,
I will only say it once-—

You reach a point where nothing can be worse than where you are right now.

You’ll find there is a very nasty contingent (small, but nasty) here who sincerely believe that women having any rights at all was the downfall of this country. There posting history says it often.

So this who scenario is their dream of dreams-— women as nothing.

Sad to say, there’s way too many people who think like that on this forum.

Let’s add to the evidence for just a moment, and allow me to wax vocal on the reasons that I think women who allow their emotions to totally control their lives to the point that they are unable, or unwilling to reason based on the facts at hand, is just one reason women should not be voting.

Interesting.

Wita is mormon. That is an extremely patriarchal religion in which women are second-class (if that!) citizens. Women are to be subservient to the man in everything, and I'm not surprised to see that opinion from a mormon man.

I don’t know, but in light of the attitude.....it wouldn’t surprise me.

Keep the little woman beat down, you know. Barefoot, pregnant and all. Same attitude as the cults.

hmmmmm..... Maybe not LDS Mormon.....

You have a point there. Maybe wita is fLDS.

I only know that he was a rabid Romney supporter, and told me at one time he was Mormon.

Really...no proof of the horrors the FLDS has EVER committed? Lets start with that pervert Warren Jeffs. He was found GUILTY & is facing more trials in other states where I hope he is found GUILTY again too. So we know he was found guilty of of being an accomplice to rape for performing a marriage between a 14-year-old girl to her 19-year-old cousin.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,298003,00.html

What a good son Warren is.... He is estimated to have around 40 wives, some of whom were formerly married to his father, and about 56 children. (Just an estimate)

http://www.sltrib.com/polygamy/ci_3805407

And you think that the women who speak out here on FR against this shouldn't vote? lmao! I think people who make asinine statements shouldn't vote either & IMO that includes you.

Maybe you don't mind welfare fraud but I do. Maybe you think taking the children away from their mothers who don't know any other life & will do whatever a man says is terrible. Well I don't agree. I think that those children ought to be given a chance to speak up & if the mothers were so concerned they would have went to the safe place to prove that they wanted their children & would do anything to get them back. I don't think religion is a reason to have child brides. When you have sex with a child that is RAPE. Last I was aware of under the age of 16 yrs old that is CRIME. I hope all the men go to jail where they belong. As for the women, I think they need to look at what their cult is truly about and decide what is more important, their false Prophet or their flesh & blood. That is if the children are even their own & not given to them by a Bishop or Jeffs. I have read & watched men come forward & say their families were ripped away from them , children & wives given to other men. Then the men were tossed out of the FLDS. There are so many stories... I have watched shows on the Lost boys of the FLDS....And I find this to be one of the sickest cults there is. And the women & children were taken because they had to find out who was who & what age...Funny how this cult goes from state to state & women disappear...If TX saw underage pregnant teen girls they should & did take them. Why would they leave them so they could up & be taken out of state again? I could go & on but why bother, you will say its bs...So don't bother to reply to me. You have nothing to say that could change my mind & you have insulted women.

I think a change needs to be made....

Wita who allows his emotions to totally control his life to the point that he is unable, or unwilling to reason based on the facts at hand, is just one reason HE should not be voting.

You know, the more I read and make the connection of gender to screen name, the more I see the divide amongst the sexes in response to this whole thing.

More of the posters advocating a *hands off* approach by the government tend to be male. The females who advocate that are turning out way more often than not to be LDS.

It seems that the majority of the contingent who is at all concerned with the rights of the women and children here are primarily females, and a few real men who won’t defend pedophilia, incest, and rape.

What so many fail to see is that the things they are condemning the government for doing is the very things the cult is doing to a far greater degree.

Ripping children from parents? Yup, the cult does that all the time.

Abusing children? Yup, Beating kids to keep mothers in line and *breaking the baby* (Which about amounts to waterboarding them, doesn’t it?).

Worried about the possible sexual abuse of the children in foster care? It’s guaranteed in the compound.

Worried about the women and children *losing their rights*? Oh? They had some in the compound?

But it’s bad for the government to step in to protect them. It’s better for them to be left alone in those circumstances just so we’re not in danger of losing OUR rights. Horrors, we could end up just like them and who wants that? So they sacrifice the FLDS women and children to save their own sorry skins.

At least we have them. Who cares about anybody else?

It makes me sick.

Yeah, you would think that the purpose of Government would be to protect the women and children.

Right now the State of Texas is trying to ascertain if a crime has been committed. They are still in the process of gathering information.

This happens every single day in every single State. Evidence is collected, a people are inconvenienced.

You people running around whining about the rights of people who rape and enslave children are the hysterical ones.

I am not you people, I am a certified perv or rape apologist. I have not mentioned anyones rights except in the context of women in the cult situation supposedly without rights, something only brought out by those on your side of the issue thank you.

I have never ever heard the word hysterical applied to a male. That word was invented to apply strictly to the female and for very good reason. Your reading comprehension vis-a-vis my comments seems to be seriously lacking.

No whining here. You provide the courtroom proof that children have been raped and enslaved, and I will be the first one to agree that government has done the right thing. Until that happens and there is some move to prove these wild allegations, I’ll stand by the folks being maligned castigated, hung in the court of public opinion.

You can roll your eyes and call me all the names in the book, and some that aren’t in the book, it doesn’t change the fact that there are numerous opinions on the subject and time will tell which ones were based on truth and which were not.

What matters is the treatment of the women and children forced to endure separation from family, when they were not the issue in the phone call that is also yet to be substantiated. I am always eager to say I was wrong. I hope you are of the same mind.

I don’t see the State of Texas attempting to use the courts to remove the children from their parents before a courtroom trial based on the original allegations, is in the best interest of the parents or children.

Your comments regarding their treatment, “Nothing would have made you happy but leaving these children to be tortured for the rest of their lives in the name of religious “freedom””, is a prime example of screaming hysteria, poor reading comprehension, and not in any way shape or form what I believe or have expressed on this thread.

In your posting, you said, "You provide the courtroom proof that children have been raped...."

Well, unless the children who are pregnant used envitro fertilization - they were raped. There is no such thing as consexual sex with a child.

You and I both know that statement is not true. Not even close. Thanks for your castigation of the LDS Church. LDS men and worse than that LDS women. Your stance is duly noted.

Sorry I don’t believe that statement is entirely accurate. In every case on those threads I believe you are referring too, I made it very clear that my mind was not made up. What I was against was the blizzard of what I felt were inaccuracies regarding Mr Romney’s positions, based mostly on media reporting and not on discussions with the source.
