FLDS women seek Texas governor's help
Deseret News ^ | April 13, 2008 | Nancy Perkins

SAN ANGELO — A Texas judge on Sunday ordered law enforcement officials to immediately confiscate all cell phones in the possession of FLDS women and children now housed in temporary quarters here. "I just called to say, hi. They are about to collect the phones, I think," one soft-spoken FLDS woman said during a telephone call to another member of the Fundamentalist LDS Church who was outside of the shelter. "I don't like what they're doing."

Several of the women inside the shelters spoke by cell phone to the Deseret News on Saturday to describe the living conditions there. Children could be heard crying in the background of each conversation. The News published an article on Sunday, quoting the women who complained there was no privacy and that their children were getting sick.

FLDS faithful outside the shelter are convinced Sunday's court order is a direct result of the women speaking to the newspaper.

"This is nothing more than retaliation of Child Protective Services to punish those who were disclosing what is really happening behind the walls of this concentration camp," said Don, an FLDS member who asked that his last name not be used. "These are my family members."

What motivation would the TX authorities have to come out and say ‘Yep we got her!’ This is an ongoing investigation, involving hundreds (who frustrate the situation by giving false names and false familiar relationships). So what is to say that they know who she is and they have already interviewed her...why would TX need to share that with the media?

It was not a call to CPS. It was a call to a 3rd party so if it was false they cannot be prosecuted for a false report.

Had the call come from a concerned citizen, who wouldn’t give their name...

the situation would still be the same.

Take the children into protective custody until the truth is found.

Take the mothers if they want to go.

Do not let them be influenced by the very men that trade the women and children as if they were cards in a hand of poker.

Take DNA samples, get some proof that an underage child bore a child.

Question the women and children, separately if necessary.

Give them adequate care while this is going on. (They were moved because the facilities they were in, were inadequate. The first facility wasn’t really prepared for this volume of temporary residents.

I mean, we are talking 400-800 people.

where does one find a facility that large, with adequate health care services, on a moment’s notice?

Police, and CPS are allowed to act on anonymous tips.

So I think you are beating a dead horse.

They do not yet have to say they have found her. Motivation for doing that now however would be to ally fears of people like me who think she does not exist. The child custody hearings coming up may force them to reveal whatever info they have (or none).

“DOZENS OF PREGNANT LITTLE GIRLS IS PROOF OF WRONGDOING.”

Well, we don’t know if that is really what we have here.

Then again, that may be exactly what we have here.

The investigation is not yet complete.

Putting 400+ people in state custody on an anonymous phone call is not a "dead horse" it is very serious.

“that every hour that passes without the girl being found is more indication of fraud?”

Actually it would be “leaves open the question of fraud”.

Every hour that passes, there are likely interviews with the children and women, going on, that are providing testimony, and some DNA results that might confirm underage sex, being sent back from the labs.

It is possible that the ‘girl’ might not be found, and yet, if the evidence is there, that this unacceptable form of behavior will be stopped.

I understand your line of thought, however you are predicating the whole case on one possibly fraudulent witness, and ignoring that there may be other witnesses, and other evidence, that we have not been informed of yet.

I am sure the MSM will ‘trickle’ this out to us, as they see fit, in order to keep us standing at the trough waiting for the water to be poured in.

In the meantime, they are showcasing the “Child ripped from mother’s arms” photos, “mother forced to hug pole in lieu of actual child (whose name she isn’t sure of)”.

Actually, I wish not to criticize these women. They are between a rock and a hard spot.

If the State is not successful in proving the abuse, and underage sex claims, these women will be returned to their ‘husbands’ who will punish them severely for their lack of loyalty.

They do a lot of trading to and from the minor leagues (yes, it’s a pun)

One thing we can agree upon...we are not parties to this case. So what we know (or don't know) is of no real consequence. No need to play it for the media...

Which leads me back to the pictures. Sorry, but these gals need some community theatre training. Maybe as BHO would say, its my Pennsylvania 'antipathy towards people who don't look like me' but honest, the 13 pix up on the Deseret News page are contrived and hooky. To a one its lets line up and tear up girls...as a woman and a mom no emotion was raised in me...and I have had cartoons make me tear up.

“Putting 400+ people in state custody on an anonymous phone call is not a “dead horse” it is very serious. “

Yes. But you are forgetting to mention the 100 years of child bride and wife/child swapping that this particular cult practices.

when it became illegal in 2005 (IIRC) to marry someone 14 years old, then it became illegal for the FLDS to continue the practice.

They were asked to comply with the law by organizations affiliated with the MORMON,RLDS,LDS,and FLDS faith.

They refused to cooperate.

It is much more than just one call, one case of abuse.

For the state of Texas (CPS) and LE to take 400+ people into state custody, I darn well betcha they considered it to be very serious.

As I said.....if I even suspect child abuse, I'm required to report it. Any report made must be checked out. When you see a 13 year old pregnant girl walk by then you know you're in the right place!

They’ll be returned to the perv, errr, husbands only if they want to be. Remember some brave gals chose to go to shelters (instead of back to YFZ like the photogenic group did). Using your baseball analogy, these women can lean over the plate and ‘take one for the team’ and get themselves and their children (hello, they have to know who they gave birth to) on to a better, safer life. The mom ‘hugging the pole’ instead of one of her three sons should realize that not all of her sons will get to stay in the family. One or two might not be ‘chosen’ ones, so it begs to question would she cry when her teenaged sons become ‘lost’ like so many others.

“Not if the CPS has its way.”

I can’t say. That still remains to be seen, after it is determined whether or not the charges are true.

“Besides... would you please define “Real Mother?”

The birth mother whose arms they were originally ripped from.
Or the mother they originally ‘knew’ as mother, whose arms they were ripped from, when their ‘daddy/husbands’ decided to trade for new children, or new ‘wives’.

They didn’t have a clause that guaranteed the mother/child were only to be traded as a package.

I looked at those photos and I see what you're saying about the colors of those dresses.

When my daughter was in a sorority, they had "family colors". This reminded me of that.

And they did look staged.

Yep...and the home team got into trouble when they started picking up prospects from the 'minor' leagues...

I love baseball...

Well Well, I have gone from perv apologist to rape apologist in just one thread. I’ll try and consider the source.

Let’s add to the evidence for just a moment, and allow me to wax vocal on the reasons that I think women who allow their emotions to totally control their lives to the point that they are unable, or unwilling to reason based on the facts at hand, is just one reason women should not be voting.

What??????? You say their is no such evidence? Well I think I might be willing to agree with you if it weren’t for some of the comments on this thread from women, willing to hang the entire FLDS group without one shred of evidence, one arrest, one charge, just allegations, and what passes for internet research.

I would ask all of you who are mothers to place yourselves in the shoes of those you so gleefully would see hung out to dry, and consider that you were in their situation as you describe it, without rights, or choice, or will, or control over your life. Forced to be married to men not of your choice, force to have children, force to accept punishment from the men you don’t want to be married too.

Now consider the one thing that gives you joy, your children, are ripped from your loving arms and taken by the very government tasked with protecting its most vulnerable citizens, instead of going after the MEN allegedly perpetrating all the things the raid was designed to stop.

So what did the raid accomplish? Women and children taken into “protective custody”. No, women and children separated from their young children, terrorized thereby, forced to endure more of the same things they allegedly endured in their compound, if the allegations prove true. Women and children now convinced beyond a doubt that government, is not their friend.

If government truly wanted to protect the children, they would have gone after the alleged perps, not the women and children, but NOOOOOOO, where is the focus, all on the women and children. I think that is wrong. I think the women and children deserve more respect than government has shown them.

Now can you believe what government is going to do, you got it, go after the women as bad mothers, and take into state control all children over the age of five. Gee, I thought it was the FLDS MEN that was the problem. See how not sticking with the Constitution can gore the bull in ways you hardly can imagine until it suddenly is your bull being gored.

Government, or lack thereof, has been the facilitator of these groups for over fifty years. Now, they think they are going to solve it using the same method that caused government to have to back off in 1953. The entire scenario is going to be a field day for lawyers, and the women and children will be forced to continue being abused if not by their men, then certainly by the government designed to protect them.

Oh, please.

You people running around whining about the rights of people who rape and enslave children are the hysterical ones.

A separation when the children don’t even know WHO their mothers are, is far less damaging than spending one’s life as an abused brood mare.

If they had gone in and arrested the rapists, you would be whining about the poor rapists’ rights being violated.

Nothing would have made you happy but leaving these children to be tortured for the rest of their lives in the name of religious “freedom”.

Check this out. Someone who thinks women shouldn’t be allowed to vote is against the rescue of the slaves in the FLDS compound.

That’s strange. *Rolling eyes*
