If they had pretty much a slave compound, engaged in systematic child abuse, ...

I strongly suspect some of these things occur in the militant Muslim mosques and cults like the Black Muslims.

Things could be worse

If this had been a single dwelling and children were removed because of abuse, what kind of environment would the mother and father face? Would the father be confined to the house and the mother to a shelter? Probably not. They would most likely be in jail and the kids in foster care until details worked out.

The whole group is involved. Why is that hard for you to grasp? The older wives knew of the younger wives or willingly gave their underaged daughters over to become ‘spiritual’ wives. The most blatant evidence is the very existance of pregnant early teens. What the authorities in TX are doing now is sorting thru the various identities and familiar relationships of people who have been taught that they alone are the ‘chosen’ people and that the rest of th world is evil.

Comparing this situation to Catholicism in early Ireland is irrelevant at best and manipulative at worst...bring in the Catholics to what spread sexual misconduct charges around?

With subsequent post your logic gets thinner and thinner.

That’s a ‘we don’t know’===
We’re dealing with a ‘we know’ here.

everything you suggest can be used against them. The efforts to “errase time” show an intent to conceal underage sexual relations. If I wanted to be a REALLY creative prosecutor I might even try to fold it into a tampering with evidence of a crime charge.

This group apparently is abusive, even if you take the word of some of the statements coming out of the state of Texas with more than a grain of salt. Prosecutors have a long standing tendency to attempt to try the case in the court of public opinion. However, my concerns on this matter are twofold: the expansion of the role of state intervention beyond the punishment of specific crimes and the inconsistency in attacking an unpopular group with little political clout while leaving larger, more powerful groups with more friends in the media alone.

However, I don’t think the adult women can take their children with them...

Kind of a fake open door for any real mother.

Cindy brought up that she believes somewhere there has been very good record keeping. Probably in a harddrive somewhere.

My supposition was a the old family Bibles with births and deaths.

We “know” about the FLDS because the authorities are willing to investigate. We “don't know” about the local mosques because the politicians are afraid to touch them due to potential repercussions.

But that again is a what if and yea, that’s life.

Right now, this is what we’re dealing with because its in our face...in the future, we’ll deal with the other. Or something else that gets in our face.

Life and all it’s battles never happen as planned.

There were only a very small number of mothers who were away from the compound at the time the children were removed. Since the children have been naming multiple women as their mothers, and the women who went with the children having been giving different names every time they’re interviewed, it’s pretty hard to establish whether any specific child has been separated from an identifiable mother. That’s not the state’s fault. Due to the large number of women and children, the state had to split the group between two temporary housing facilities. Again, due to the refusal of the women and children to cooperate by giving identifying information, most likely additional mother-child separations occurred in connection with this process. Again, not the state’s fault. In light of all the deliberately obfuscating information authorities have been given, it was quite reasonable of them to decline to let any additional women into the temporary housing locations with the children, before this Thursday’s hearing.

Again,
if you want them to investigate the mosques, make it your goal to bring things to light.

But in the here and now, you don’t get to pick this fight.

Again,
the smoke screens are brilliant in concept. Blur every marker that humans carry— time, family, idenity.

the letter wasn’t from the women, was it?

Odd you are defending such a band of control freak/perverts who’ve not allowed the women and/or children one free thought or action in their lives.

There have been numerous reports of sexual abuse and recruitment of potential terrorists at mosques in this country. They pose a far greater danger than any FLDS member to society at large. However, any police agency or prosecutor who went after them would face the full brunt of liberal media hostility and suffer from pressure from the Muslim community. The Federal government would have to hear complaints from the Saudis and the Gulf states. The police agencies and the district attorneys know the political score and will not act.

I agree we don't get to pick our fights, but it is ridiculous when we fuss over a paper cut but ignore the cancerous growth.

What on earth do they think the second least powerful governor in the nation could possibly do?

Besides re-mousse his hair, of course. He’s aces at that.
