The comparison to the Amish or Mennonite is valid on the grounds that these communities feel there is something holy about living what they feel are the "old ways".

Polygamy is very much a part of the old testament in Christian religions. FLDS like the Amish & Mennonite have chosen to live outside the norm and essentially fix the cultural norms for their community to some artificial historical point.

While I don't support the way they may have gone about it, especially if free-will and self-determination were stripped from the members of the community; I can certainly see myself joining a community that fixed it's social norms to 1990 if the liberals via the Main Stream Media continue to shred our social fabric.
