Absolut's New Campaign: Celebrate Homosexuality
worldnetdaily.com ^ | April 08, 2008 | staff

The vodka company that envisions an "Absolut" world in which Mexico regains the U.S. Southwest is now unveiling two new "lifestyle-driven" ads focused on homosexual men and their "members," and same-sex couples.

Calling itself the "preferred brand of vodka for gay and lesbian consumers," the Absolut Spirits Co. says it's targeting homosexuals for the first time with a campaign "embracing both the humorous and socially conscious."

"Absolut challenges the status quo by presenting a bold and optimistic worldview that speaks directly to gay men and women," the company said in a news release. "The campaign visually answers the questions 'what if everything in the world were approached with the same ideals that Absolut approaches vodka?'"

The ads began appearing late last month in local and national "LGBT media," or lesbian, gay, bisexual transgender.

As WND reported, the company also has a print ad that reconfigures North America according to the aspirations of many Mexicans, who believe the U.S. Southwest was stolen and should be returned. Major Hispanic civil rights groups in the U.S., such as the National Council of La Raza, are tied to movements advocating a "reconquista," or reconquest, of territory lost when Mexico signed the 1848 Treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo at the end of the Mexican-American War.

The Absolut Spirits Co. is the New York-based importer of the Swedish vodka maker.

Doesn't look like it, they are in competition according to this related 2006 article. However, that time it was Stoli catering to gays:

Stoli vodka buddies up to the gay and lesbian crowd with documentary

Guess ya just can't win.

I don't drink Vodka, but the Russians I worked with swore that Finlandia and Skyy were the best Vodkas you could get.

Absolut and Stolichnaya were the bottom of the barrel.

Either that or a College socialist has taken over their marketing office.

Gives a whole new meaning to “cocktails”. How about “The Weenie Martini”, “ Three Fingers Straight Up”, “ The Asshopper”...

I highly recommend the vodkas from Poland...having lived there in the past, I may be slightly biased though.

For those unable to consume grain, there is a brand made from potatoes called Luksusowa. I’ve always been partial to Zubrowka, but am not sure if it can be acquired here in the USA.

Plus, Poles are generally decent people - even the Freepers from Poland...:P

I used to enjoy Absolut Vodka, but gave up drinking all alcohol about a year ago.

I find that real life provides me with enough in the way of hangovers - especially news like this.

To me, these ads are more or less as offensive to me as if Absolut ran ads advocating child sexual abuse or extoling the vitrues of the Third Reich.

WHAT ON EARTH HAS HAPPENED TO MY CULTURE?

As things are going now, there are enough deviates and others in the world that I would not be too surprised to see either of my hypothetical, grotesque ads appearing for real, sometime in the not-too-distant future.

I’m glad I’m not a younger man.

I've gave up Gray Goose when the Frenchies “stabbed us in the back” about the war in Iraq...my father who was “over there” in WWI must have rolled over in his grave...
guess the Frenchies have a short memory...
especially since we “pulled their bacon out of the fire” TWICE!

so I drink Belvedere Vodka...when I drink Vodka. LOL

Both brands are owned by the same company.

Did some more investigating...not "owned" by the same company, but close enough. Pernod-Ricard just acquired Absolut on March 31st, 2008 and only has U.S. distribution rights for Stolichnaya.

I had less of a problem with the reconquista one...because that is not really going to happen.

But encouraging homosex...that will happen

Calling itself the "preferred brand of vodka for gay and lesbian consumers," the Absolut Spirits Co. says it's targeting homosexuals

Can you imagine Jack Daniels or Old Grand Dad ever advertising itself as "the preferred whiskey for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered consumers"? Neither can I.

Will Absolut's advocacy stop at Aztlan and the homo agenda? Doubt it. Expect a map of the Mideast excluding Israel next. ...and perhaps a map of a U.S. with a submerged coastline (due to ice cap melting from global warming)

I wrote Pernod-Ricard the Reconquista ad and here is their reply:

“Thank you for contacting us regarding the Absolut ad from Mexico. Pernod Ricard is not yet the owner of Absolut and has no involvement in the management of the brand. The acquisition is expected to close this summer.

Nevertheless, we understand that this advertisement has caused offense and we have passed your comments on to V&S, the Swedish owner of Absolut. They have informed us that the ad in question was withdrawn on April 4 and will not be used again.

Please rest assured that your comments are valuable to us, and that we have taken note of them. Pernod Ricard has a strict internal code of ethics which all our advertisements are checked against.

As soon as Pernod Ricard becomes responsible for Absolut, we will integrate its advertising into our approval system.

Corporate Communications

Pernod Ricard USA”

Tried this brand this weekend. Better than absolut actually. The UV Apple can pretty much be drank straight with no problems at all. I like the fact that it's 60 proof as well. And the flavored vodkas are damn good.
