Can legal immigrants post bail?
I certainly hope they can. If not, considering how long it takes for a case to come to trial, they’re effectively declared guilty, since the period of detention might be the same as a jail term in the event of a conviction.
Even for illegal immigrants, have people who are likely to run away report to the courthouse or police station every week or so until the case is heard. Restrict their travel to the cities where they live and work, maybe. Denying them bail is the *same thing* as handing down a guilty verdict, only without an actual judge and evidence and due process.
exactly let them post bail but put it high enough they’ll have to either show up or be charged with bail jumping. Either way they will more than likely go to Mexico and stay.
