Who do you suggest?

I prefer to work like a sculptor, eliminating the parts I don't like first. Rice sort of comes off early for me.

Wouldn’t this be the rats worst nightmare!

You mean the Republicans and especially the conservatives. A Vice Presidential candidate who is pro-life and pro-global and pro-palistinians. Ugh!!!

Mine too. But anyway, I'm already not voting for a McCain ticket...so what the heck.

Is that Condalezza-"I know what it's like to be Palistinian cause I grew up black in the US-Rice."?

Bleh. No thanks.

Your right about the Palestinians. She is doing her best to destroy Israel.

I agree with Latina4. Condi Rice is a remarkably admirable woman. She has not been a terribly effective Secretary of State and a lot of her views on domestic issues (pro-abortion, pro-affirmative action, God knows where she stands on immigration) are not ones shared by most Republicans.

Most of us here are grudgingly getting around to supporting McCain in November. He needs to shore up the conservative base and he should do so by picking a solid conservative as his running mate.

Rats have thrown away what could have been certain victory by playing identity politics. I suspect their fondest dream is to see their opponents self destruct the very same way.

Sadly the big brains of the republican party have shown as much self destructive desire as the rats so it'll probably happen.

Stupidity knows no party.

Tasty rice? Terrible, except long-grain or wild rice. Is Condy wild?

“Wouldn’t this be the rats worst nightmare!”

No, it would be conservative’s worst nightmare. An incompetent Secretary of State put in the VP position where if anything happened to McCain we’d be stuck with her. Her position on Israel (she is pro-Pali) is enough in itself to disqualify her. She would be a most rotten choice and a deal killer for many conservatives if put on the ticket.

While you’re getting around to grudgingly suppporting McCain he’s looking for a moderate centrist running mate. He’s going to keep sticking his finger in conservatives eyes because he thinks they’ll vote for him anyway. Some probably will but if Barr gets the Libertarian party nomination we have an alternative and that’s who I’m voting for. If Barr doesn’t get the nomination then I’ll just leave the ballot blank for President.

Gene Robinson is a “rat” supporter 100000%...he is a troublemaker here...his column is not meant to be supportive of Rice - read the last few sentences - can you imagine anyone write the same about Hillary or Michelle Obama - fashion show, daily workouts and the whole works - ...Seriously, Rice will add little to the ticket in the electoral sense, but more baggages..if McCain is willing to risk the same baggages about GWB ties, Iraq, affirmative action and “pro-life” issues, and needs a minority who can bring in electoral appeal and supremely qualified to be Prez - it would be Colin Powell (and he will be 70 - a downside clearly)..

IMO, BHO can’t win the general w/o some support over the downscale white males - the lunch bucket crowd - his Rev Wright issue is frightening to this grp and prime for McCain to take make significant inroad there...these are the angry white males that turned out in 1994 midterm election...so contrary to CW, McCain should not pick a veep for the minority votes (his own appeal to the indies is enough), but rather someone can channel the angry white males to his camp...hmmmm...how about Fred Thompson with his little red truck driving around in rural counties of VA, WV, OH, PA and MI..A McCain/Thompson ticket makes perfect sense if BHO picks Jim Webb as his veep...both folksy white male, but who looks more presidential in a debate and who’s more believable in the acts..(Webb could make WV competitive and has appeal in both OH/PA rural counties, his approval rating in VA is not that strong but with Warner running for senate, VA could be a nailbiter altho the military votes in VA could go for McCain)..

.......

Wow. Free rice is actually more addicting than Free Republic. At least in the short term.

Well, I agree with you about Rice, but McCain is a deal killer for me all by himself.

You are correct. I like and admire her a great deal. However, she is from the Bush era and at this poing people don’t want more of the same. That’s why clintin will lose the nomination. Bush/clintin/Bush/clintin? I don’t think so. Why would anyone want her in there and having the two same families one after the other. It is someone else’s turn and in the dem party...that someone else is OBAMA.

she will not bring the female vote...

Actually she might. My mother is not enthusiastic about this election, but Condi turns her into a certain voter. My wife is a McCain voter already but is delighted by the rumor.

Are we so media-whipped that we think the only winning ticket must be multi-cultural? Condi is a Black Republican who can add no Democrat crossover votes. On the ticket she can lose millions of redneck and bubba votes that are now set to vote Republican. Sorry, but it is still so true.

I respect your decision. I am all for libertarian solutions to domestic issues, but I find the Libertarian Party’s foreign policy unacceptable to me.

Are there any Republican VP choices that you would find acceptable?
