'Shining' In Iraq

Posted GMT 4-6-2008 2:13:28

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, expecting the worst -- which for her means any good news out of Iraq -- has pre-warned Petraeus not to "put a shine" on events there.

"I hope we don't hear any glorification of what happened in Basra," Pelosi said Thursday, in reference to U.S. and Iraqi troops' recent successes there in rolling back extremist Shiite Cleric Muqtada al-Sadr's militias.

"Glorification?" Heaven forfend we should glorify "what happened in Basra." Our troops fought bravely, performing superbly the job assigned them by their own government -- including you, Madam Speaker. But we shouldn't "glorify" them.

We're not talking about a mere policy dispute here. There are lots of legitimate policy disputes, even about war. This is about the open contempt some members of one major party seem to hold for our men and women in uniform. It's one thing to oppose a war, another to more or less openly root for us to lose it.

Well, we have some real bad news for Ms. Pelosi. Seems a new National Intelligence Estimate is out. And it says what she fears most: The situation in Iraq is much improved. We're winning. The U.S. has made "significant progress in Iraq since the last assessment in August," according to the Associated Press, quoting a "senior military official." That official also discussed the major progress made in healing sectarian rifts in Iraq. Recall that last August, the NIE spoke of big security gains as a result of the 30,000 troop "surge," proposed by President Bush in February 2007 and implemented by Petraeus last spring. That report and Petraeus' subsequent testimony to Congress sent Pelosi, Sen. Majority Leader Harry Reid and other anti-war Democrats into a rage. Hillary Clinton even accused Petraeus of lying. With the new NIE, Clinton, Reid, Pelosi and the others will no doubt be apoplectic. They're terrified we might actually win this war. Where would that leave them? We know, we know: We need to show a little sympathy here. Antiwar Democrats just can't seem to catch a break, what with so much good news coming from Iraq.

Just look at poor Rep. John Murtha, who charged eight U.S. Marines with "cold-blooded murder" after a firefight in Haditha. Last week, he heard the worst news possible: Yet another of those he rashly and obscenely accused, Lance Cpl. Stephan Tatum, had all charges against him dropped.

So far, we've spent three years and nearly $50 million to try the Haditha 8. And so far, none of the charges has stuck. Given this, it's our view that if Murtha had any decency, he'd abjectly apologize. Or better yet, resign. He's guilty of a slander on the honor of these good men.

But Congress' anti-war Democrats show little sense of shame, especially on national security. So the chances Murtha will apologize, let alone quit, are virtually nil.

We don't want to tar all Democratic congressmen with the same brush, however. Fact is, a number of them have gone to Iraq and come back reporting -- honestly -- both the good and the bad. Mostly, they've told what an outstanding job our troops have done, and how much better things are now than two or three years ago.

Given their party's official stance of opposition to the Iraq War, we laud them for their honesty and intellectual courage.

That said, Americans might want to keep in mind Pelosi & Co.'s abysmal behavior as they gear up to vote this November. A party that can't be trusted to win a war can't be trusted to keep the peace.

What an absolutely horrible creature she is.

#####

When she was growing up, her father was the mayor of Baltimore - then a city of almost a million people.

Her mother was the Democrat “boss” who anyone had to see to get anything done. Their home in Little italy was the HQ.

Nancy comes by her toughness/nastiness naturally.

What does it say about a party when it takes "intellectual courage" for its members to say something positive about their country's policies.

It’s difficult to imagine they are so blatantly antiAmerican!

See this :

Unholy Alliance: Radical Islam and the American Left

And a review:

**********************************

By  Kat Bakhu (Albuquerque, NM United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Unholy Alliance: Radical Islam and the American Left (Hardcover)
I had long wondered why people on the Left had the propensity to speak more positively about people who would slit their throats than they do about their own country, which affords them more freedom and opportunity than anywhere else. David Horowitz has answered that question thoroughly and convincingly in his Unholy Alliance. Where I felt bewildered and confused, I now feel crystal clear. Unholy Alliance is such a great book.

It begins with the leftist movements at the beginning of the 20th Century, and works its way up to the present day, exploring the anti-American attitude of these movements in detail. Horowitz shows that the enemies of the US back then are largely the same group today, operating under the same misperceptions, making the same mistakes, and pursuing the same impossible utopia.

Individual chapters are included on the Patriot Act (I was persuaded that it is a GOOD thing); the democratic flip-flop on Iraq once G.W. Bush implemented what they agreed with Clinton needed to be done; the driving components of the current anti-war movement; as well as chapters on individual personalities who are major spokespeople of the Left. Horowitz covers a lot of ground, and he covers it concisely and clearly. Unholy Alliance is richly informative without ever being boring or plodding.

This book is so illuminating that I simply cannot do justice to it here. I love people who reason so clearly that they help me get my own reasoning clear. Horowitz is just that type of person! In the terrain of mindless clichés (no-blood-for-oil, etc.), he is a breath of real fresh air.

The Dems are on the record....see this:

Hill Dems petition Bush on Iraq - Democrats Letter to President Bush April 4, 2008

****************************EXCERPT INTRO*****************

A group of senior house Democrats today urged President Bush to overhaul current Iraq policy and encourage leaders of that country to bolster its political and military infrastructure.

The leaders said the recent troop buildup in Iraq had not achieved its purpose and urged Bush to direct troops to play a more limited role in Iraq and divert freed up resources to other regions such as the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Socialist have basically one agenda. Tax to gain sufficient funds to keep the welfare state in good shape, in order to stay in power. Anything that deviates from this plan must be fought at all costs, treason being an acceptable option in their eyes.

Worth repeating, Uncle. The Democrats don't care about this country, they want power. They are convinced that they can wear us down over time. They've made inroads into government, academia, and all media. They will never quit. They are the enemy within, the real Fifth Column. Wouldn't it be grand if we could just hang the bastards.
