The vast majority of the time American made products are superior. The problem is, they’re priced out of range for most folks.
Selling what the consumer wants at a price that the US consumer will pay. Good stuff.

The only reason to buy a product is for quality and price. As I said, a large percentage of American products are superior. I recently (and with much sadness) disposed of a pair of American made shoes after 23 years. If I remember correctly, they were $400 new and I believe I got my money’s worth from them.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but companies are formed to make money for their stockholders. Most of the stocks are owned by institutions such as retirement systems. When a stock doesn’t give a good return, institutions sell it and buys a stock that will. That’s capitalism. A hundred years ago the companies who use to make buggy whips had to lay off people too. I’ll bet the talk back then was “this country is going to hell in a handbasket”.

HA....I just bought a Lazy Boy Recliner.....at GOODWILL for $50...it’s about 12 years old, and like new! And comfy, too. Going to recover it.
There are two ways for a country to build wealth.
One is exploit its own natural resources.
The other is by turning raw materials into goods (manufacturing).
Currently 85% of our GDNP is service based (basically selling each other hamburgers). We are creating no real wealth as a country.
Is it any wonder the dollar is slipping daily on the currency markets? As the dollar plummets, oil appears more expensive. Lower wages and more “expensive” goods are the sure result of our economic future.

I bought a washer in 2000. Great Washer. A friend bought a house that had a washer that was 3 years old. She was going to bring her existing washer to the new house and wanted to get rid of the washer in the house. Since it was the same brand and about the same type model, I said wow, I will take it, thinking what a deal. Unbelievable the quality difference in 5 years. My 7 year old washer is like new compared to the POC left in my friend’s house. Mine-porcelein tub, the other-plastic tub. I think I got mine right before the quality bought the farm. And from what I hear....if you want service on the POCs, good luck with that.

Au Contraire. I’m totally against all this capitalism guilt.
I’m for true capitalism. The kind that made our country great. I’m against all this whining from the unions. The world is a small place. US companies have to compete with foreign companies in every way possible. Does that mean that companies can treat employees poorly? Of course not. It is not in their self interest. Any well run company should treat their employees well, but never forget that if they go out of business, they are not doing their employees any good.

Buggy whip companies did not go under overnight...
Cars replaced horses and buggies gradually over several years...
And ahhh, the American Buggy Whip Company never sent jobs to Mexico..
It took us a while to pay it off. Yes, we financed it. But we treated it as an investment.
Funny story — the old couch was falling apart. We'd find spring or a wire on the floor every week or so. It was a hide-a-bed. My brother stayed with us from time to time and one night we heard a loud crashing sound. The hide-a-bed had collapsed as my brother was getting ready for bed. And we couldn't figure out how to fold it back together to put it away with wires and bars sticking out in all directions.
Remember sneaking pieces of it out to our public dumpster in the middle of the night until it was gone.

That in itself is a lost skill. Because shoes are so cheap, people have forgotten how to care for them. They “paint” on shoe polish and think they’re doing a good job.
However, these were Alden shoes. I’m a loyal customer.
