- Raising vehicle registration fees, which now average $31, to an average of $62 and having higher-polluting vehicles pay higher rates and cleaner cars lower rates.

This is already in effect.

Since the new CAFE standards will kill off the higher horsepower V8s (again) I thought of a variation of this to keep them around.

As they already have a “gas guzzler” tax on vehicles that get below a certain MPG, why not just call this gas guzzler tax a “fee” at the point of sale of such vehicles and exempt them from an automaker’s CAFE quota? Compared to the millions of mundane Camrys, Accords, and Altimas out there, the number of low MPG vehicles is small.

This way the government will get their cut (as if this would happen without it) the small segment of the population that likes and buys cars/trucks like these will be able to continue to do so, and the automakers will continue to make good money on vehicles like this. A win, win, win all around.

Most of the little cars out there are driven more miles per year, or sit in traffic, idling away gas while going nowhere.

I have a Nissan Titan LE Crew Cab 4x4, but I only drive it about 12,000 miles a year.

I’m sure farmers will be exempt...the left is doing a good job of securing those votes.

No problem. I’ll just fill up my Honda, take it home and siphon it into my Tahoe. Problem solved!

I have a great idea. Why not tax newspapers? Hear me out.

What is newspapers made out of? Trees. And what do trees aborb? Carbon dioxide. What “greenhouse gas” is responsible for “Global Warming?” Carbon dioxide. So the logical conclusion is, cutting down trees to make newspapers contributes to global warming. Which brings me to my proposal.

I think we should tax every single newspapers 75 cents a copy. That way it would both help fight global warming using the money to buy carbon off sets and/or it will discourage people from buying newspapers which will save trees which absorb carbon dioxide, the greenhouse gas responsible for global warming.

The idea of charging “green” newspaper fees that would make subscribers to a newspaper pay higher taxes and offer discounts for those who strictly read their news on the internet for free would be a environmentally friendly way to conserve our precious resources and at the same time fight global warming. What do you think?

If a significant number of people started driving electric cars I bet they would start wailing and gnashing their teeth about all the people "evading" the gas tax.

Make liberals pay higher income taxes.

And make them green bastids pay more for gas too since they won't let us drill anywhere.

I prefer that we make it a felony for them to purchase any form of motorized transportation.

Like $3.98 a gallon hadn't already done the same thing: that big block don't burn much gas sitting in the garage.

Torlakson is a red-label socialist. I’d tack on some other truths relating to his politics, and his lack of intelligence, but they’d be redundant.
