latest word out of Afghanistan is that Taliban forces are in a bit of a pinch. The last couple of years they maneuvered in large forces - and got killed readily. Exposure to US firepower - and fewer recruits - has caused them to use smaller 5-10 person teams. While less detectable, they do not provide the force necessary to intimidate Afghan villagers. And like a buzzing gnat, they are not building a very good rapport with the local tribes.

I have a friend whose husband is back from Afghanistan in the past year. We're thankful he's back home safely with his family. Our troops have done a lot of good things for the locals (schools, roads, military training, etc.). The Taliban, not so much.
