Looks like Dr. Emanual Tanay might be the author.
Thanks for checking. I understand the main point of the piece, but not naming the German aristocrat detracts from its authenticity. It goes to the heart of whether the “silent majority” is innocent, or complicit.
Most probably the story is wholly allegorical. Dr. Tanay was born in 1928, so obviously didn’t own any factories in 1933. To have owned factories which were subsequently seized by the Nazis, the author would have to be maybe 125 years old.
