This list is for intellectual discussion of articles and issues related to public education (including charter schools) from the preschool to university level. Items more appropriately placed on the Naughty Teacher list, Another reason to Homeschool list, or of a general public-school-bashing nature will not be pinged.
If you would like to be on or off this list, please ping Amelia, Gabz, or SoftballMominVa
For once, we're not at or near the absolute bottom of something good.
Oh, my eyes! My eyes!!

I don’t know, but I can tell you we had kids who were 20ish still in HS where I taught. You can be dumb as a box of rocks perhaps, but you have to, at some point, turn SOMETHING in. Some of these kids come to school for the free breakfast and lunch and to have a warm or air conditioned place to flop their rear ends. They don’t study, ever, they don’t do any work, ever, but the school cannot get rid of them until they age out (in TX I believe the law stipulates they can go to school until the year they turn 21, but it might be 20).
And, I also think Mom’s welfare is tied to any minor children actually being enrolled and attending school.

Good one... pat yourself on the back!
And yet some Rat in Lansing just entered HB 5912 to assure that all of us “underperforming” homeschoolers register with the local schools.
What a bunch of clods. Spend the time getting your own house in order before you invade ours.
Even the worst of homeschoolers can’t underperform public schools. They may equal them, but can’t underperform them.
“Minneapolis has been run by Liberals for the last 50 years. I am not surprised at all. After all, they are the ones who are so proud of their enlightened tolerance by electing Keith Ellison, a Muslim who was a radical for several years, to the US House of Representatives.”
Well, you say that, but Minnesota pretty typically ranks near the top of educational achievement charts. And on top of that, cities like Seattle and San Francisco top this list of major cities, as well.
Perhaps I considered it a bit more homogenous than it really is. I do know it has been a hotbed for immigration as of late.
Can't speak to the others but Autumn has been an accepted girls name for years (I know lots of little ones and quite a few in their 30's with the name).
But these are not made up names.
The real interesting ones are the orange jellos and lemon jellos of the world.
Our country would be a whole lot better off.
Only one of those that surprises me is Oklahoma City is so low. Would have thought they’d be better.
Sixth grade is enough for anybody in Oklahoma.
The city of Minneapolis is a relative island of political correctness in Minnesota. The rest of the state is not nearly so bad.
We need a "two-strikes" voter eligibility law. Voters elect their politicians and the administrators of their city institutions. If your mayor is indicted for crimes, and if you school administrators can't educate your kids, then you relinquish your right to vote at all until you can prove that you have the brains and common sense to make good decisions at the ballot box. Automatic 2-year suspension.
If this were to ever happen, the Dems would lose every battleground state. Because without Detroit, Michigan is an overwhelmingly Republican state; ditto for Pennsylvania; Missouri; Wisconsin; Florida. Sure, the Dems don't need inner city black votes in those states filled with white latte-sippers like Oregon, Washington, Vermont, and Massachusetts. But without 80-90% majorities in inner cities the Dems would be toast.
One could only dream.
But on the other hand, the result might actually be an improvement and show a way forward for others.
A conservative solution to a problem caused by liberals.
Kwame was the mayor and not in control of the school system. The problem transcends Kwame.
Well the dumbest guy in Detroit is named Matt, but thankfully today he finally got fired.
