McCain would win in a landslide with a two minute speech that says:

“I can now see I was wrong on amnesty and I am now willing to lead the fight to stop illegal immigration and work for the self-deportation of all illegals in the USA. I also want to repudiate my efforts on McCain Feingold that I now feel is an unconstitutional block on free speech. And I can see now that my outreaches to the Democrats will never be reciprocated and I won’t try that any more.”

“I am a conservative Republican and I realize now that I have strayed from those principles and ask my conservative brethern to give me another chance - I will not let them down again.”

But this is McCain. He and his sycophants would never do that. So he might as well start writing his concession speech now.

Would you believe him? Anything short of him working to make the Schuler/Sessions bill happen is not enough.

...I am now willing to lead the fight to stop illegal immigration...

You'd probably meet McCain halfway if he just said that junk about Immigration. Most Conservatives would.
