We are finding a cycle, a spate of living will or advance directive promos. Surging after the Terri atrocity, periodically they return. As a caveat, living wills can be good, can be not quite good. But they are pushed and usually accompanied by media falsehoods about what happened to Terri. This sounds Good but is not great.

Good cited the dismal case of Terry Schiavo, the Florida woman at the center of a national debate who eventually died 13 days after her feeding tube was removed in 2005. Schiavo, 41, had been comatose for about seven years, and her final days were embroiled in painful legal battles between members of her family.

“We have no earthly idea what Ms. Schiavo wanted, and no one ever will,” Good said.............

Living wills all over the place today, including the above post, and now this.

As a result, “fewer families and health care providers will have to struggle with making difficult health care decisions in the absence of guidance from the patient, and health care providers and facilities will be better equipped to address advance health care planning issues before a crisis and be better able to honor patient wishes when the time comes to do so,” she said in a release.....
