When T’wit left, he passed the baton to us. Every morning I post I cannot help but pass my thoughts through his filter with the desire that they approach his wisdom. He kept up that perseverance and urge to us all right up until his last moments. In that respect he is still with us in spirit.

Nat Hentoff wrote a piece on Tuesday about the Schiavo Family Foundation. My father was in a vegetative state for three years following a stroke. I have had elderly relatives in nursing homes as they lingered close to death. I have told my relatives that I do not wish to endure either situation, nor do I wish to squander the nation's medical reserve, nor do I wish to wait to be "cruelly starved and dehydrated" to accomplish my ends. Because there is no "right to die" in California, this probably means that I will have to terminate my life myself before it is really necessary. Carol Atwood Santa Cruz
