Arrington said he thought his message might have more power if it was delivered to a blacks-only audience.

what kind of hell would erupt if a white judge wanted to talk to a WHITES-ONLY audience in a courtroom ? this politically correct double standard crap has to stop. maybe obama needs to make another speech.

If he wasn’t an idiot he would have said he wanted to talk to the young men without any attorneys and left race out of it.

But that would be unlike him.

"I came out and saw the defendants, about 99.9 percent Afro-Americans, and some point time I excused some of the lawyers, most of them white, and said to the young people in here 'What in the world are you doing with your lives,'" he told WSB-TV Channel 2 reporter JaQuitta Williams.

Actually, his explanation makes perfect sense to me. I support what he did. That's probably the first dressing-down most of those men have received in their lives.

“I didn’t want them to think I was talking down to them; trying to embarrass them or insult them; be derogatory towards them and I was just saying ‘Please get yourself together’”

This judge is a piece of garbage.
Instead of pleading with criminals he needs to lock their As@#$ up for as long as the law allows.
I’m getting sick of this!

saw the defendants, about 99.9 percent Afro-Americans,

So there were 1,000 defendants in the room, and one was a non-black?

Someone needs to have said this. If these kids had FATHERS, it wouldn’t have to be a judge.

I think his intentions are good, but it still makes him seem color oriented... Because why don’t whites and asians deserve the same talk about get yourself together? Don’t they merit the same concern? I like the judge giving a talk like this, but everyone deserves it regardless of color.

When I was practicing law, courts were open to the public, and remained so, except in statutorily provided instances [child rape victim, unless closed circuit TV could be used], undercover cops still working undercover [and that required a hearing], or upon motion [in VERY limited circumstances] by counsel, with both sides heard [subject to Court action by the media if the courtroom was sealed].

I can't remember more than three or four times in 26 years that happened. I never heard of a case, or saw one where the judge, sua sponte] sealed the courtroom himself.

One very interesting thing about recent black controvery, from Rev. Wright to this Judge’s racist attitude, is that it appears to be causing liberal Whites in this country to finally get over their delusional affinity to liberal guilt over past slavery. If you look around you hard enough you will see signs of this shift. Notice how the bottom two from the publics voting on the last American Idol were both Black. Not sure you would have seen this last year. Oh, my brother’s wife and step daughter, both liberal teachers that have always voted Democrat and were Obama supporters, following the Wright fiasco have said they intend this time to vote for McCain...even though voting Republican for the first time is causing them some distress. You could have knocked me over with a feather.

Racial issues aside, it is unethical-if not illegal-for a judge to address a defendant outside the presence of his attorney. It violates, among other things, the US Constitution’s Sixth Amendment Right to Counsel.

"I didn't want them to think I was talking down to them; trying to embarrass them or insult them; be derogatory towards them and I was just saying 'Please get yourself together,'" he said.

Why couldn't you be derogatory to a criminal? God forbid you should insult a mugger or burglar.

Who the heck does he think he's kidding?

Wonder if the judge has a special talk reserved for his white customers, or is he not as worried about their future?

It seems to me he can give each one of his customers a special individualized speech, when he gives each one a long sentence as he protects society from these predators.

He didn't kick the lawyers out because they were white, he did it because they were lawyers. Anywhere but in a court of law I would have no problem with that. But throwing a defendant's legal representation out of court is a clear violation of their rights (barring contempt citations which would be a special case).

He's not a racist. He's just a really bad judge.

I agree with the Judge 100%

However in this charged post IR-Reverent Wright episode anything with race is very very sentitive, and most white folks I know dont want to have much to do with black churches anymore.

I have no problem with the judge's desparate attempt to reach these lads.

It is unfortunately utterly useless. These are hopeless slaves on the democrat plantation. Their lives have been destroyed by democrat party teachers unions, public housing projects, and welfare.
