Yup.

Semi-autos require... see my above post.

Haven't tried this yet with my hi-power but I wonder if my hi-power will discharge with a round chambered and the clip removed.

Have shot a lot of rounds with it but never tried this.

I gotcha - you saying auto and then semi-auto had me confused...

Mind wanders a bit on Friday afternoons.

What is a "hi-power?"

Are you referring to a Browning Hi-Power?

They do not take clips.

They take magazines:

Ooops, ammo magazines...

From the factory, a Browning Hi Power or a clone of one, has a magazine disconnect to prevent pulling the trigger and dropping the hammer when the magazine is removed, whether or not there is a cartridge in the chamber.

A lot of people remove the magazine disconnect to improve the trigger pull and for other reasons. A "previously owned" Hi Power may have had that done.

Some say it is an advantage to be able to remove the magazine, leave a cartridge in the chamber, and have the firearm be unfireable. Some say it is not an advantage.

If you have a good trigger on your HighPower, the magazine disconnect may very well be removed. The only thing I didn’t like about mine was the trigger so the disconnect was taken out as soon as I learned how to do it. It’s relatively easy but you should find an exploded parts drawing before you attempt it. You’ll have to remove it yourself because no gunsmith will do it for you.

Don’t forget to keep the part. You may have to reinstall it if you send the firearm back for repairs.

The stock Hi-Power has a magazine interlock that will prevent this. Some people remove it, but this is considered a bad idea by the legal beagles.
