My daughter was a cutter. She cut her self because she clsoed herself off emotionally after a taumatic incident in her life. Thank God she is finally cured of that. Unfortuantely she replaced cutting with tattooing.

Most cutters are female. It’s a behavior that is hard for most family members to deal with. Some cutters will say that they are trying to hurt themselves but that is usually a cover. Sometimes it is to get attention. But many say they get a high from cutting themselves...so it is similar to substance abuse in that aspect.
