Yep.

It strikes me this is a cautionary tale. The global warming bunch had better hope their junk science is right and the glacial cycle has been ended because it's hard to see how our civilization could continue in its present form with half of Europe and a third of North America under the ice.

Yup. a super-volcano or a meteor impact could put us there in a matter of days/weeks. (for a long time)

Ice Age danger

Judging from the past million years of 100,000 year Ice Age cycles, we are about due for another one. If a natural catastrophe does not trigger one; global warming could, melting the Arctic Ice, increasing solar heating from the lost of reflectivity. Also, as the Gulf Stream moves north, the sea water is made more salty when it freezes. The heavier, saltier water sinks to the bottom of the ocean and circulates back to the equator. No freezing in the north, no sinking water, no circulation, no Gulf Stream, no warmth for Europe or Canada, and a new Ice Age can start. Google NADW (North Atlantic Deep Water), and NAO (North Atlantic Oscillation) for more on this.
