Hillary Clinton may not realize it yet, but shes just endured one of the worst weeks of her campaign.
First, Barack Obama weathered the Rev. Jeremiah Wright affair without serious damage to his nomination prospects. Obama still holds a tiny lead among Democrats nationally in the Gallup tracking poll, just as he did before this whole affair blew up.
Second, Obamas lawyers successfully prevented re-votes in Florida and Michigan. That means it would be virtually impossible for Clinton to take a lead in either elected delegates or total primary votes.
Third, as Noam Scheiber of The New Republic has reported, most superdelegates have accepted Nancy Pelosis judgment that the winner of the elected delegates should get the nomination. Instead of lining up behind Clinton, theyre drifting away. Her lead among them has shrunk by about 60 in the past month, according to Avi Zenilman of Politico.com.
In short, Hillary Clintons presidential prospects continue to dim. The door is closing. Night is coming. The end, however, is not near.
Last week, an important Clinton adviser told Jim VandeHei and Mike Allen (also of Politico) that Clinton had no more than a 10 percent chance of getting the nomination. Now, shes probably down to a 5 percent chance.
Five percent.
Lets take a look at what shes going to put her party through for the sake of that 5 percent chance: The Democratic Party is probably going to have to endure another three months of daily sniping. For another three months, well have the Carvilles likening the Obamaites to Judas and former generals accusing Clintonites of McCarthyism. For three months, well have the daily round of résumé padding and sulfurous conference calls. Well have campaign aides blurting blue dress and only-because-hes-black references as they let slip their private contempt.

Hitlary must UTTERLY DESTROY Obambi, and end his carreer, to have ANY chance of winning.
And she has FIVE LONG MONTHS until converntion to attack his reputation, both politicly AND personally.
In hindsight, Dean’s decision to move the Denver Convention back a MONTH, to prevent Hillary’s “Peaking Too Early” like John Kerry, was REALLY a great idea!
(For REPUBLICANS...)
Yep, by putting the Dem convention back into the month of August, it helps McCain stay above the dogfight that has become the democratic nomination. Some would say this is healthy and a natural part of the democratic process. It does make for more entertainment!@
Why waste perfectly good electrons and pixels by republishing this idiot Brooks?
There are basically three ways this thing ends. One and the most likely is that Hussein is required to put her on the ticket to stop the blood letting. Two is that they hate each other so much and Hillary is so self absorbed that she takes it to the a convention floor flight and loses a 1968 style convention guaranteeing a McCain win. Three is that the moonbats dump both their asses and turn to Nobel Prize Laureate Algore.
Operation Chaos to perfection if number three comes true.
“I love the delusionary thinking that Jeremiah Wright hasn’t done Obama much damage. Dream on, David!”
Yeah... that point alone told me everything I needed to know about the article.
Buy popcorn stock. ;-)
How does Brooks come to this conclusion with Obama dipping in the polls? Stupid.
Do you really want to read ONLY columns, articles and blogs written by conservatives? What do we learn from an echo chamber?
I think it matters.
When are the democrats going to realize that Howie Dean is to blame for much of the mess they are now in. He snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. And, IIRC the Clintons did not what him as head of the DNC. Thank goodness the stupid democrats listened to the far left loons and choose the screamer.
What that means is that crats don't care. No effect in the primary season. I, and everyone I hang with, damn sure do care.
I particularly liked this statement:
"About a fifth of Clinton and Obama supporters now say they wouldnt vote for the other candidate in the general election. Meanwhile, on the other side, voters get an unobstructed view of the Republican nominee. John McCains approval ratings have soared 11 points. He is now viewed positively by 67 percent of Americans. A month ago, McCain was losing to Obama among independents by double digits in a general election matchup. Now McCain has a lead among this group."
"OPERATION CHAOS" is right on schedule.
This also boosts popcorn sales, which is an economic stimulus.
I don't think she will settle for second place, and if she did accept the VP slot, Osamas life expectancy will drop dramatically.
The states with large black populations have even larger white populations (Mississippi, Tennessee, Alabama, Virginia, etc.) Senator Obama with his speech has pissed off the group he needs the most. Please nominate him, fools.
The key is to turn operation chaos into votes for Republican candidates down the ballot in November. I want to hear Rush explain how that will happen. I think I know, but I want to hear Rush address it. Crossing over now can pull the rug out from under state candidates!
She would take the VEEP spot if it means not having to cut ribbons at Buffalo New York car dealerships for another four years.
Besides she could get this guy impeached working the inside.
