Very astute assessment. McCain will win — the liberal wing of the Republican party will do all it can to ‘take back’ the party from the conservative wing, and the next four years will be teeth-grindingly difficult as McCain tries to please “his” base -— which is not us!

If he chose Romney for veep, and retired after 4 years, conservatives could have a chance.

After Hunter and Thompson pulled out, conservatives seemed to put their hope in Romney. I do not think Romney is really a conservative, though. I realize he was the next best (or worst of the best) thing, but an ex-governor of Massachusetts doesn't give me a warm fuzzy. On the other hand, just to get elected there I'm sure he had to hide any thread of conservatism.

And just to acknowledge reality, I do understand there is no Ronald Reagan waiting in the wings like during the Carter years, so I will try to be pragmatic about the candidates. As best I can.

It's like the Asimov’s First Law of Robotics:

A robot Conservative may not injure a human being the United States or, through inaction, allow a human being democrat to come to harmpower.

LOL! I guess I'm a geek since I read Asimov!
