"The wounds of racial hatred have, over the past 20 years or so, been healing." There will always be a certain percentage of racists in society, within each race. However, things have certainly changed since the 60's. I don't know how much they have changed in the past 20 years, but in the past 40 years, there is a huge difference.
But as long as there are programs like affirmative action, which favor one group over another only on the basis of race, there will always be a certain amount of resentment on both sides because of the unfairness of the system, on the one hand, and the frustrated sense of entitlement on the other. Frustrated, because the basic premise seems to be that opportunity equals success - a formula which raises expectations but cannot fulfill its promises.

Agree that the improvement fro the 60’s is tremendous. However, as you point out, the Affirmative Action and Welfare State have gone way too far and there is backlash in process. Frankly, Whites are sick and tired of the double standards and reverse discrimination they are being more and more subjected to.

America is one of the least racist nations on this earth. The authr should try travelling the world sometime. Look at how most Asian societies disdain those of other colors (China, Japan, and Korea especially). Look at how Africans treat those of other tribes. Look at how Europeans view minorities.
Personally, I'd rank white America in the top 10% of the LEAST racist countries. (Black America, on the other hand, has some huge pockets of racism to deal with)
